Help - white smoke but no loss of power

Featured Replies

help - new to this forum so excuse any mistakes. I have an Audi A4 Cabriolet 2008. suddenly car started puming white smoke, sort of sweat smelling. 1st just reaction was turbo. called AA, he was miffed as no obvious signs (apart from smoke), car was running fine, no codes. anyway towed it to a garage (local), he couldn't find a fault, he called Audi who suggested something to do with breather? & suggested changing replacing cam cover due to blocked breather. bought car home & still smoking. when cold it seems fine, until it warms up then white smoke, no loss of power, drives fine.any ideas? desperate as wife needs car for work.

Hi Harry....welcome to the Forum

I would say it sounds like coolant being induced into combustion....e.g. Head Gasket failure.

You mentioned it smelt sweet, that would be the antifreeze content burning off.

Check for loss of coolant, and also run a combustion leak test (fluid changes colour if combustion gas is present in the coolant)

Let us know how you get on with it all

Cheers,  Trevor
