Sounds of a normal running 3.0 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi, I am new to owning diesels, can I just ask, with the 3.0 tdi, when it is running from cold, is it normal that the passenger side bank runs a bit more clatter (minimal just a different tone / note when you listen closely to the other bank and just wondered if that was normal.

Send us a video . It could be a cam chain rattle on start

There were 3 versions of 3.0tdi in a6 c6

Bmk - chain issues

ASB - chain issues fixed

CDYA - facelifted model

What year is your a6 ?

Hi Niedzial1983, it is an ASB engine according to the V5 engine number and the car is Jan 2007 registered. I will see if I can upload a vid.

Cool.

Here is an example of chain rattle . Usualy its the top tensioners that fail .

Asb have been improved by audi and chain issues are less likely to happen but...

ah no it doesnt sound like that.

Have you done a vcds scan to see for any faults ?

  • Author

Yes, it was just serviced and had a checkup on all recorded faults and issues and the only thing that came up was a inlet manifold motor on bank 2 and an earth issue with the passanger side engine mounting. Nothing else there whatsoever. Hopefully, I will be able to attach a vid of the sound to this message..

That is great news, thanks. ! :) It is going in to have the inlet manifolds changed on Monday so will ask them to double check, but sounds great, thanks very much for your time. Cheers, Ben.
