Welcome to the forum Ade :) as of yet no, but could be a good idea! Its certainly something I hadn't thought of! The roads up north are amazing and the views are stunning! hi just bought an allroad silver 2014 mmi plus touch electric seats ,having a little problem with the door mirror doesn't seem to move far enough out (the glass) ,any thoughts anybody ?

Hello olgert, as has already been mentioned by magnet the shocks should be changed in pairs :) im wondering if the R8 has the metal files (metal shards) in the shocks similar to what the Audi TT mk2 had? The idea behind the metal shards was when they were magnetised it would stiffen the ride. Could be controlled by the driver from within the cabin. It was an optional extra on the mk 2 TT but I wonder if it was standard on the R8. This could be what the mechanic is referring too. Cheers Steve

i might treat the old girl to some diesel, she's not had any on almost 10k now. not sure i can fave people there with the stink from my exhaust lol. was funny the other day thouhg, was an add for Shell V-Power on the radio. i said to my lad, i use V power in this don't i, he said do you? (looking at me gone out), i said yeah, Veg Power hahahaha. apparently the only funny thing i've said in around 5 years.

The Audi ones are probably the only ones that fit the Audi roof bars, a tailgate kit will do the job, but don't try to open the tailgate with the bikes on it!!!

I agree with you Olgert. These are indeed usually changed in pairs, and I would say particularly since this is a performance car. You can bet that if this wasn't under warranty, you would struggle to get any main dealer to change just one shock absorber. Having said that, this is the manufacturer's warrantee we are talking here, and I wouldn't be surprised if VAG simply change the faulty one. I would suggest seeing what they actually propose to do, and if just the one then use your sound logic. My feeling is it will end up with them fitting a pair if you are prepared to part fund the second one. Good luck with getting it sorted. Kind regards, Gareth.

I missed this thread completely. I had exact same symptoms on my old Scirocco. First thought it was flexi pipes ballooning out occasionally. I changed them and thought it was sorted about 4 weeks later it happened again. I changed the servo with second hand one. Never did it again. Just be mindful of it still though mate. If it does do it again while driving do a quick pump of brakes rather than just keep pushing down if that makes sense.

Update garage couldn't find anything mechanically wrong with the a6. They suspect that when they did the brake fluid change in March that air may have got into the system. So after a second brake fluid change the brakes are working fine now! Fingers crossed it's all sorted and I can go to Belgium with peace of mind! Thanks for all your help all :)

Hello Jamie, Two possible ways of reducing the risk of buying the wrong car:- If you view a car and are serious enough to proceed towards buying it, then arrange to get it inspected by a local independent (need to do your research on who this will be in that area first). OK it will cost you possibly a couple of hours labour charge, but well worth that investment in their expertise. If this cannot be done on the day of viewing then no doubt it can be arranged prior to a final decision. If the buyer isn't too happy with this ( and you can check in advance) then don't bother to look at the car. If not buying from the actual owner, then always obtain their contact details from the V5 and talk with them. No one is likely to know the car better than they do. When you think you have found the car you want to buy, you will fall on love with it - for better or worse. Now you know what they say about love - it's blind- so just disappear into a dark room for a couple of hours of thinking rationally. Good luck with finding the right car. Kind regards, Gareth.
