I got an update from Audi Updates on the tinterweb - came with full instructions on how to proceed. I know with mine I had to send them my VIN number as there is a licence file that is needed to associate the maps to the car.

Sorry that you had a bad experience :( Frustrating they couldn't find anything, but hopefully it doesn't happen again, but as you learn the feel and sound of the car you'll maybe able to pick an unusual thing with it if it comes to that which hopefully it won't! Just a quick update on what happened at the dealership. They kept the car a few days and ran various tests but couldn't find anything wrong other than a fault code for low fuel pressure but when tested everything checked out ok. Although they can't explain they're confident it's been a one off and is not something the engine in our car is known for. We've done about another 300 miles or so in the car since and had no repetitions of the same issue. I almost wish they had found something wrong and fixed it because my wife is now wary about driving it incase it happens again which I totally understand but I am hoping that her anxiousness will pass with time. Fingers crossed.

Hi Richard, sorry to hear of your predicament :/ i worked in a Volkswagen service department and saw cars come in with dpf and egr issues and often couldn't have the emissions recall done. I do hope the dealership checked the car computer for faults prior to doing the recall?! I do agree that this should not have happened on a car with 15k miles! I would expect some form of good will from Audi with regard to the repair. Keep us updated on how you get on. Cheers steve

Good Morning Im about to start with communication of a limp mode car after the fix! the car only has 15000 miles on it and had no problems before. now has particulate filter, engine management and emissions control lights on. Ive read that the audi garage in Swansea has admitted that its the fix that causes the faults. Could I ask if Bexybat got he repair for free? and how can you help me and others? Hi Dan...welcome to the Forum Usually, the musty smell is the bacteria in the heating & ventilation system and it needs eradicating by using an 'air cond bomb' which is like a smoke grenade which you put the air con on full (recirculation), windows up and let it rip. The smoke/gas works it way through the pipes and tubes killing all bacteria and hey presto, smells nice again Cheers, Trevor

Hello Peter, I wouldn't claim this is the source of your problems, but such problems can occur where the wiring into the door from the A post - via the flexible rubber sheathing - has become brittle over time and one or more wires almost/do break. This section of the harness really does get a bit if a hammering, particularly in the colder months where insulation becomes more brittle. It might be worth peeling back the flexible sheathing and just checking there before delving any further. Good luck in sorting it out. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks for the replies guys, I did some looking around, it may very well be an incorrect bolt, it looks like I'll be taking the day off work tomorrow to go in and chat the the garage that carried out the repairs. i don't know where they source their parts from, I know I stopped using euro car parts a long time ago due to the "quality" of their merchandise. Thanks Scott, Well Trevor - great minds think alike. Although in my case it could be idiots always agree! Seriously, this looks more like a B&Q ordinary mild steel rough-as-a-badger's-backside threaded screw rather than a high tensile set bolt. Probably simply sheared at some stress raiser point along the thread where these threads are rough. Surely, surely, this is not a VAG sourced part ( please tell me it's not Scott), but looks suspiciously like it may have been made very far east of the English channel and found its way to the local motor factors or an EBay listing. Really interested in this, since I'm sure someone else has had a similar experience. Kind regards, Gareth.

I've recently installed a Superchips Bluefin remap onto my TTS after 2 years of ownership and I honestly can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I can't comment on long term reliability as I've only had it on a few weeks, but the difference it's made to the car is very noticeable, and in a very good way! My car has excellent service history and I think as long as you do your proper maintenance you're not going to have problems. Just bare in mind that if there are already underlying issues the remap may well highlight the problems due to the extra strain being put on the engine and components. My opinion is make sure the car is mechanically sound and, if so, go for it! You definitely won't regret it!

Welcome to the forum :) Good choice on next car by the way. The a8 is a lovely car! i suspect it will be standard on the a8L w12 or s8 but unsure on the other models. To be honest I'm surprised it isn't standard on the a8 anyway. Also if the acc does go wrong it can be very expensive to fix. The camera can also get dislodged by debris and at which point the car will need a 4 wheel alignment and camera recalibration which is a big job due to the complexity of the camera. Cheers steve

I am referring to the emissions scandal, lots of cars have had the recall to 'rectify' the emissions cheat. There has been several cases of VAG cars in general then breaking down days or even hours later, sometimes resulting in engine failure.

Every one I've ever owned has shown directions in text. Not this one apparently. It can do a myriad of amazing operations but not one of the most obvious and easiest.

Welcome to the forum Robert :) youll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :) the thing is one is a SUV and one is an estate car so I think it depends on what you intend to use it for. 2 things with regard to the Porsche is that everything from the purchase price through to servicing will be more. Also the Macan looks like a baby cayenne. I feel the public will have the same opinion on the macan As they do with the boxter. Poor mans 911 and poor mans cayenne. Plus you'd be hated less for driving an Audi than a Porsche. Please note these aren't my opinions and I'm not trying to be biased towards the Audi. As i bet the Porsche will Deffo be more luxurious and better built than the Audi hence the price. Obviously being an SUV it'll be more practical depending on where you live. Countryside perfect but inner city probably not and in which case the Audi will probs be more ideal :) another option could be an Audi sq5. I would suspect this is on the same floor pan as the Porsche. It could be the best of both worlds for you? Sorry if iv been controversial. cheers steve

Hi guys I had my A3 EA189 fixfail done 23rd of march about a week later started getting symptoms of struggling to start engine sound was different from before less power but didn't have any lights on my dash , spoke to Audi as I thought something isn't right, then thought I'll look on the internet see if anyone else has the same issues and it seems everyone who had it done was experiencing the same or worse symptoms, long story short I spoke to a mechanic friend of mine , well two who I no know what there on about and they both told me to remap my car , so had it done today and the drive was amazing with a little extra power as well more fuel economy and hopefully no more issues , so if you are experiencing problems after the emissions fix, go get your car remapped as it puts your car back to its healthy self .
