  1. That fact alone should stop you right now.
  2. I'm shocked that a main dealer are even selling this car to be honest. If the finance agreement was taken out lat month, I wonder if the person who bought it and took out finance has rejected the car in the first 30 days as there was a problem with it. This could also explain why Audi are being defensive about the history.
  3. Thankyou, Clifford, I suspect you are right. Having now spent yet another several hours, we have discovered that no less than 8 people have checked the car in the last month on motorcheck.co.uk Some pretty weird findings, too. Appalling to find that authorised dealers just can't be trusted. I guess we'll now have to do all the work for ourselves and buy privately. Thankyou all so much for your help.
  4. Sam. It is very possible that your car's wiring loom will not have the appropriate wires and connectors for the wheel you want to use. Unless somebody can confirm otherwise you should visually check that such connections do exist before buying a new wheel.
  5. Lucy. If you can not get a service history, whether from the vendor or Audi or a previous owner, I suggest you walk away from the deal. That's not to say the car is definitely dodgy, it may actually be pukka, but without evidence to prove its condition I would not commit several thousand pounds to its purchase. Bear in mind the well deserved reputation of used car salemen being unscrupulous lying scoundrels.
  6. Well done Mike glad you got sorted, thank you for this valuable information.
  7. Fantastic stuff. Glad it's got an MOT so it can be used 🙂
  8. Okay, so I've bought one. Not the 1983/83 model I was initially after but a 1988 2.2fi FWD in tornado red - it was the fuel injected 5cyl that was most important to me. I was swayed by the current condition, recent body work and steady use over recent years - currently 181K but 50K over the last 20 years. It looks great with just enough tidying jobs to keep me busy when I have time. Bonus is that it fits in my garage at home and with my wife's consent we can move the exercise equipment into another room so I have space to work on it too. It is SORN at the moment and I'll probably keep it that way and tax it during the summer months. If you are interested it featured in a number of recent YouTube videos by OG Cars. I'll be selling the current private plate which is a bit geeky even for me. Wish me luck reliving my twenties! I suspect I will need plenty of support from the forum to begin with.
  9. Well done Mike, I admire your perseverance and dedication, not to mention your detailed guidance and reporting here. I hope anybody who follows your hints adds his thanks to this topic. Personally I would not consider spending more than a year in changing, to put it crudely, one radio for another no matter how much better the new one may be, but then my requirements of a car are much less than they used to be years ago.
  10. btw all , I found the sensor, behind the air box new one on order
  11. If the gearbox hasn't been serviced there could be something internally wrong with it. The other thing that can go wrong is the megatronics unit but I don't think it'd be that in this case due to the gearbox oil not being changed but the previous owner etc.
  12. Looks stunning 🙂👍
  13. Its a cracking motor - thanks for pici's and enjoy your ownership.
