  1. They will quote chapter and verse and you’ll be even more confused. It’s not just the belt, it’s the bearings on the pulleys. New kit comes with tensioner pulley, etc. normal course is to replace water-pump and auxilliary belt too.
  2. Hi they must be top flight garages [NOT] my guy would be laughing his socks off, I wish I could catalogue the amount of things cam belt related that I have witnessed in the last twenty odd years of using my garage, I am always down there off and on and the latest was a customer with a three year old Citroen that was told at the last service he had better get the belt done SOON. Nah he thought its only done 20k and there it was in full gory glory having a cylinder head rebuild around £1800 without the new belt kit, Citroens small engines are notorious for banging out belts because they are wet belts, to sum up I have run well over a million miles between five taxis and never had a belt fail and I attribute this to changing the belt when he has suggested, so my Passat which has a 120k change interval gets its new belt every 80k because as a cab it gets far more action than the average family car, again what's cheaper a belt or a rebuild thats if you haven't jammed a valve through a piston which means SCRAP at the end of the day you have drawn from a rather large pool of experience and at the end of it the choice is still yours, the essence of this forum is to save members money and stress. Steve.
  3. Sounds like you’ve had a mare with the car. Good job on the injectors. Leave the suspension until the spring. Trust me you don’t want to be arguing with multi-link suspension in the winter. Days are short, it’s cold and I can guarantee you will have seized bolts. For the suspension, invest in PlusGas penetrating release. Always wire brush exposed threads before undoing, and a propane torch is handy too. If your budget stretches, invest in air hammer. Milwaukee 1/2” impact driver handy too.
  4. Right guys, I’m back had an absolute mare with the car it conked out on a roundabout on a dual carriageway 🤬forcing me to be towed by the police recovery at £120 loved that 😂 So I go to the recovery company’s compound armed with a jump pack and some easy start we get it going and back home and I discover I have a knackered injector and injector washers on cylinders 1-3. So I ordered up a new refurbished injector factory sealed from bosch with genuine seals and washers. While I’m fitting them when I yanked out cylinder 2 injector the washer fell down the gap between the injector bore landing someware in under the cam cover by now I’m absolutely fuming so I wait till morning and buy a borescope from Toolstation very reasonably priced at £37. Right so get it back and shove it down into the cam cover through the injector hole after about 20mins we find the offending copper washer nestled next to one of the rocker arms in just about the worst possible place to fish it out but undeterred me and a mate spend 4 hours with a bit of copper wire from some old t/e I had lying around attempting to fish it out We give up as it’s chucking down by this point. I eventually came round to the fact I’m going to have to remover the rocker cover to get it out so Monday comes round I’m online purchasing injector bolts and washers cam cover gaskets and all necessary one time use hardware some of which I had to purchase directly from Audi to get genuine was !Removed! expensive £105.00 for 3 washers and 7 new stretch bolts for the cam cover. Got there in the end got the little bugger out and refitted the cam cover with a new OEM gasket and hardware renewed all the washers and stretch bolts on the injectors cleared all fault codes took her for a test drive and she’s like new pulls like a freight train. Then today I thought it would be a good idea to swap the oil out as I could smell fuel mixed in with it so I replaced all filters air fuel and oil installed the new battery no fault codes and she’s driving lovely. Next job will be fitting the MEYLE HD bush kit on the front end but that probably won’t be for a few weeks now and I've got a !Removed! horrible cold after all that 😂
  5. I'll just chip in and say it's become a common fault and I would suggest that you replace all 6 at the same time. Otherwise as many have found repeat visits will cost more money and inconvenience.
  6. Ive read very good reviews and been recommended this vag specialist (midland vw) by a friend whos had head rebuilt on his mrs a1 and couldnt speak highly enough I guess only time will tell, I thought id use them as they are reputable company around the midlands and i want it done properly. They have over 25 years of vag experience and only deal with VW, AUDI, SKODA, SEAT. Id preferably like to use darkside developments but they are quite a way from me 👍🏻
  7. One other thing.. which they will know if they're any good.. you must refit the injectors in their original positions otherwise you also have to renew the tensioning brackets.
  8. I did answer this up the thread buddy.. Its going to a vag specialist called midland vw 👍🏻 "Yes wouldn't touch dealer only unless I really had too! I will look at midlands vw in Norton canes they are a audi vw specialist, ill give them a call and get some prices."
  9. I will keep you all posted on the outcome. 👍🏻
  10. ah right we can see it says audi 2004 in your signature
  11. Hello Chris, Not absolutely certain for your model, but it would be highly unusual for a 2004 Audi to need to have its battery coded? What prompted you to buy a Moll battery for this 22 year old car? I recall reading up on these batteries some time ago, and if memory serves me well (which it doesn’t always) then these batteries were troublesome and VAG discontinued using them - ? Regards, Gareth.
  12. Don't take this as gospel but attached is the data for my Q7. But bear in mind I have the 8 speed auto not the 6 speed auto. Same engine though.
  13. I know Steve, it's funny but not at the same time 😑, yeah i already have cleared the code and then took for a quick drive came straight back same code. It's only that code i have on the engine bar two, which is related to the engine mount and AC controller. Maybe i should view it as i good thing and get a hybrid. But yeah will be very annoyed if its the turbo. I swear this car can smell when i get paid... 005512 - Engine Mount Solenoid Valves (N144/N145) 5697 - Please check DTC Memory of A/C Controller P1641 - 000 -
  14. Thanks Stevey - concerning. Update: I have sold the Quad, and an M3 Touring is inbound. It will be interesting to compare it to the RS4 Avant I previously owned. Thanks, Mark
  15. Thanks for the advice Spartacus I think I’ll leave it till it gets a bit warmer and longer days like you said before I decide to tackle the bush refresh. Fortunately I am lucky enough to have a Milwaulkee 1/2 impact gun in the tool box. I’ll deffo look into the penetrating oil I do have some Rocket TT spray I haven’t used yet but people say it’s good for seized bolts and the like.
  16. Good advice. So often I see folk spray penetrating fluid onto rusty threads and then expect the nut to magically grow enough to run over the rust.
  17. That sounds good to me. This is what I have done.
  18. Injectors need new bolts and usually clamps. I would do all 6 too, plus new seals. Half the battle is getting injector out.
  19. 1 point
ticking noise that was front brake pads easy fix, but the big mystery reverse gear bang/clunk solved, after lifting the car up i checked everything as suggested propshaft joints brakes engine mounts all in perfect order, booked again an appointmet to dealership took few videos beforehand because it happens occasionally and i knew they might not be able to reproduce it if i leave my car again so i had a very good master technician working on car also asked for a testdrive so i could speak to him and show the video i took, he straight away knew the problem, he said that its a dual clutch 1 clutch responsible for reverse gear might be off and the kissing points need to be adjusted also performed a basic reset on gearbox since then 2 weeks now not a single time happend, i did try to force it cold start quick shift from d to r, but didnt happen since the adaptation, see the report Hope it helps to someone in future
  20. Thanks Alan, but we have to attempt to quote from authorised sources, and your mention of ‘…but still with a time limit (e.g. 5 years) is incorrect as we know it. There isn’t any time limit currently quoted by VAG ( that is the contention). I did quote the mileage change recommendation in an earlier post against another thread, and I recall it’s something like 125k miles without time limit - but all members are advised to recheck this since the memory is not what it was! I must also disagree with your differentiation between Newer Models. We understand the removal of any time limit applies retrospectively to all models. Many thanks, Gareth.
  21. Hi - You need something like VCDS or OBD Eleven to activate it in the MMI adaptations to get it to appear on the MMI screen.
  22. I had water leaking into my boot (2015 A3 Sportback) and it was the wiper motor seal had failed.
  23. Gerry's asked 2 questions: 1. Is there a way to disable the DRL's - my answer yes. 2. What is the options regarding a fix which Steve has offered a solution. If you look at many Audi's on the road now which are around 16/17 plate, the LEDs are beginning to yellow. I've put the option to turn them off in my MMI to hopefully give them more life. Leave the light switch on Auto and they come on when the car is in low light.
  24. What's the point if the lights are not working when reactivated for the MOT? One might as well fix the lights and leave then operable.
  25. Did you manage to resolve this? I have the same on 2015 A3 and I vacuumed out 6L of water from the passenger footwells. I found that the storage boxes in the boot were all wet and it seems as though water is making its way downhill into the footwells from there. Had a garage look at it and they think it’s the bumper vents into the storage boxes. I’m about to take the rear bumper off to replace the bumper vents into the storage boxes, but I remain a little bit sceptical due to the volume of water involved. That said, I cannot find water coming in anywhere else, apart from these vents.
  26. I phoned my local Audi they said 149k no years over £1000 if Audi do it. ive only done 26.000 miles, its finding a garage/mobile mechanic with the correct timing tool to do it
