  1. Pleasure Phil, Worth nipping over to your Halfords store and asking them to check the battery for you, (and the alternator output). If the battery is found to be substandard then I wouldn’t be buying a replacement there. Just come back to us and we will probably be able to point you to better deals. If it tests good, then at least you know the answer lies elsewhere. Varta/Bosch should be OK, but with disappointment with two different vehicles a couple or so years ago, I no longer treat them as my go-to brands. Having said that, I might just have been unlucky. Please let us know how you get on Phil. Regards, Gareth.
  2. Did you get a print out of the test results for the battery’s various perimeters, and what brand is it? Was the alternator output checked at the same time? Is the car in regular daily use, and what is its normal journey pattern? Regards, Gareth.

NO,NO,Richard stop talking sense and giving him what he doesn't want to hear, {quote, I like the thought of driving a more powerful car] where he got more reliable from I don't know, I understand what you said and believe it to be 100% accurate and proven information, I have been on many forums for different brands of cars and a few of them recommend this type of terminal stupidity which is why I don't belong on them anymore, we have all given our best advice and been ignored therefore I think its time to give up on this individual and proffer advice for those who genuinely want it. Steve.
  4. Welcome Darren, Enter your VIN into LLL Parts website, and that should give you the correct (as built) part number. If you want to buy at reasonable cost, then you could try entering the registration number into Parts in Motion’s website, and that should give you a choice of brands of the correct ones. Please let us know how you get on. Regards, Gareth.
  5. Autologics or audi retrofits might be able to do the work. Members have used them with other retrofits and been happy with their services.
  6. I think your best bet is to read lots of reviews in Autotrader and the like. Only you can decide what factors are important to you, and what you can afford.

Hi All, Just taken delivery of my new Audi A5 Avant in Ascari Blue! looking forward to getting to know you all, any useful tips for settling into the next motor are welcome.
  8. Hi Cliff, I would be only looking at used petrol or hybrid's ( but not plug in). I will definitely avoid diesel. I would not want to go over 1.5 maximum ( have I got that right , ie 1.5 ?). My Focus is a 999 cc and I wouldn't want to go over an equivalent Audi 1 litre. I have to admit I know very little about audi's and their engine sizes. I don't do a lot of mileage. ; I rarely go over 2,000 miles a year
  9. You mean he fitted the wrong battery. Not all battery chemistries are equal: nicad, lithium (several types), silver oxide, etc. have different voltages and capacities. Unfortunately you can not rely on the brand name either to distinguish them, it has to be the right type.
  10. True, but that would not cause a thumping sound.
  11. Eventually got him to replace the battery on the key with a genuine Duracell and now it's working fine.

Making the engine more powerful is not going to protect the clutch. I suggest you research the matter of tuning your engine before making a decision, because more power puts more strain on every part of the engine and transmission, reducing their life expectancy and reliability.
