  1. Hi Dale I am glad to have helped and the fact is the problem is solved, we got there in the end, trying to auto diagnose problems can be super difficult as both Gareth and Steve Q will bear witness, they have both given very precise information based on only half the information about the problem from whoever posted the problem and then being told they are wrong, its a thankless task sometimes but hats off to them they still keep trying, your info has been very good and I thank you for that. Steve.
  2. Hi the key coding is in the pcb inside the key, the transponder is just the medium between the pcb and the pick up ring around the ignition barrel or key recognition point printed on the dash to the right of the climate control, no one could buy just a transponder and start your if they don't have the code thats embedded in the pcb, you might have to re pair the key but there are plenty of videos on youtube showing how to resurrect the communication, once the ECU recognises the code it will work. Steve.
  3. Hi, good man you can't let this one slide, there are some real Bottoms out there. Steve.
  4. Hi both seals in the diagram are on the release bearing, the driveshaft seal is again separate but on another diagram I have but it made sense to rush out and buy one as the original had been on for just over 100k and was a bit crusty, all three seals were £30 from Audi. Steve.
  5. Hi unfortunately used cars are commanding strong money at the moment as the majority of buyers would rather buy second hand conventional cars rather than the monumentally over priced second hand Hybrid of which no one knows their useful service life.
  6. If you think we were confused that won't even come close to what the testers are dealing with, my chap is constantly dealing with the latest changes they keep introducing and then change their mind a while later, example all cars emissions should meet the figure on the production sticker on the drivers door rocker panel, so if it did not have a sticker you had to fail the car, then they sent out a directive if it has not got the sticker as long as the levels don't exceed the max permissible on the VOSA chart the car passes even if it might have had a lower figure on the now absent sticker. Steve.
  7. Hi do not go to Audi unless you want to remortgage your house, the oil is not coming from the Diff its the N/S driveshaft seal where the driveshaft runs through the bell housing in to the Diff I know I replaced my seal when the box was out, if they don't renew the seal around the release bearing outer where it meets the bell housing and the radial seal that goes inside the release bearing, [marked in yellow] you are wasting your time. as for the end float I think they are passing the buck to try and smokescreen the fact they have buggered it up on a monumental scale. Steve
  8. Hi Phil you quoted my post and then no reply from your good self. Steve.
  9. Hi Steve to the best of my knowledge most innovations in F1 if successful in that application pretty soon appear on mass produced road vehicles, for example vented discs/ceramic brake pads, Dot 5 Brake fluid, ceramic discs, Gas Oil shock absorbers, Turbo technology, High performance engine oil/Petrol, the manufacturers are standing in line to buy the technology if proven, as if it will take that sort of beating on a track in theory a cheaper made version will last a long time on a road car, take your Audi for example, there must have been a fearsome about of research went in to selecting and developing the components on that model. Steve.
  10. Hi a longer drive tomorrow would be preferable as if you keep getting aborted regens your oil level will start to rise as the Diesel gets into it past the rings as these engines use post injection to initiate a regeneration, you can always tell when the car is doing this as the revs sit at a thousand and the car smells hot just run it until the revs go back to 900rpm and your done, about ten miles should do it. Steve.
  11. Hi the oil is getting into the gearbox via the release bearing, the radial seal that goes in the back of the release bearing is sold separately and I wouldn't mind betting that they didn't change the release bearing outer seal, the only reason I know any of this was because I went through the same thing a couple of months ago, it was no fault of the garage I used just the pr@ts that supplied the clutch forgot to tell us about the extra seals because we didn't ask, as I said you can't trust Mr Crutch, I am still wondering what gearbox bearing they are going to change as I saw a lot of the inside of my one and you can't get at any bearings without stripping the box down. Steve . Steve.
  12. Hi thats normally a sign the car had initiated a regeneration which will now be logged in the ECU which logs all successful and aborted regens as well as every time any component sneezes, don't worry about it. Steve.
  13. Hi glad you got another box, tell him you will run him through small claims court and if that won't work a rounders bat normally will,LOL
  14. Hi Glen I did a bit of digging today and phoned the most sensible tester I know, it appears Steve and myself were a bit adrift on this one, he must have read the same legislation I did last year which has changed again this year, the guy sent me a bulletin he had received this year, apparently according to him the legislation is aimed at people who bore holes in their halogen head lights and then fit retro fish eye lenses and Hid units or the same with LED bulb conversions as he explained if your car is fitted with O.E. Specific headlight units and all the relevant equipment to operate them he couldn't see a problem with that as it may well have come as an option, what the tester is looking for is a nice sharp beam cut off with no vague cut off lines and the o/s unit cut off being slightly under the n/s. I owe you a big fat apology as you have done everything in the correct order and I was wrong. Steve.
  15. Hi just a thought have you tried coding the new BCM with the old units coding, save both so you can always go back. Steve.
  16. Hi I think this information is exclusive to the stations as it beggars belief the amount of double logins and the swipe card that is used just to get into the system, its getting that tricky now as in the old days with the emissions if you had a car that had failed you could always use a car that had passed and use that reading but now because the Vin has to be entered it knows what it should be checking so if any other vehicle is used it clocks up a fail if there is any descrepency, they are electronically heading at type approval even though its a European thing and we are not in it anymore, I think your main problem is the non compatible software programmed into the new BCM, also I would be checking if that year and model were ever produced with HIDs if yes then you are in with a shout as you could always tell them it was a grey import as normally information on those is pretty rare, as for the software I would not know where to begin as thats a bit above my pay grade, as for the MOT info I am only going on what I have been told by a couple of testers, I have two MOTs a year as my car is used as a cab, I had fitted higher output bulbs before the last one and the tester spent ages looking at the headlights and then commented they seemed brighter in the beam reader so I just told him I had replaced the bulbs so he pulled a face and let it go. Steve.
  17. Hi its comforting to know I am not the only one to have come to that conclusion, why can they not let us have the choice of what we buy which will probably boil down to a 50/50 split in no time, then again thats not what Boris new toy girl Greta wants
  18. Hi Anton, I was only commenting on what I watched and my main concern is that Diesels reputation is being destroyed at the expense of promoting the Hybrid which is happily trundling about creating more pollution than the Diesel, and if you don't give the cake up you will cram on the pounds and won't go as far on your new charge because of the extra weight LOL. Steve.
  19. Hi try a few of the other forums as the Americans are big on posting fuse box/ relay diagrams, I will ask my bud at the garage tomorrow as he does a fair few Audis and might know where to look for the relays, or even come across the problem before. Steve.
  20. Hi, Steve is right as all the new MOT equipment throws up the build specs for lighting etc so the tester knows what he had to check, my local garage I use has an MOT bay next door, when I was down there earlier this week I was chatting to the tester about the pile of H4 Led bulbs on top of the the bench, apparently they are from the many MK5/6 Fiestas he MOTs for the local boy racers he used to be able to give a non urgent advisory about the foggy beam pattern but one year on its now law they have to be fitted with the type of bulb the car left the factory with. I admire your reasoning but you have done everything bar fitting a range control module for the self levelling system as on Audis with this fitted way before your year have all had this, even my A6 has one as that is HID but has no washers for the lights as it comes fitted with D5S 25w bulbs which use less power than say D3S/D1S which are all 55w therefore under European law washers are not required, as for your other problems its not recognising the new BCM for some reason, when your car reached the end of the production line it is then plugged into a massive mainframe computer which dishes out the correct software version for each module on the build specification, what type of lights used, what fuel used, what engine power output is required, all these modules talk to the ECU which digests the information while in contact with that software version it recognises, no recognition no communication then the ECU starts cancelling functions that it can't recognise from that software, you really should see the size of the Sony can bus I had to have fitted when my cab meter was fitted just to stop the BCM from spitting its dummy out, thats why hardwire dash cams are clever as they piggy back on to an existing fuse or a designated spare fuse station but are never noticed as they draw less than 2amps, the electrical system is designed to ignore really low voltage drains as they don't have the potential to cause real problems within the programmed perameters. Steve.
  21. Hi spot on ken I have been using it predecessor for years and Maximus when it first appeared a couple of years ago, I know people think you are talking out of the wrong end when I mention this stuff but I have covered over 600k using this stuff and it does exactly what it says it will, as one of the Hydra techs explained, it won't cure a terminal problem knackered EGR/DPF but its regular use on a healthy car may well prevent those problems occurring prematurely. Steve.
  22. Hi probably physically, but in practise not, as the bigger engine will produce more HP and the differential would be different to accommodate the extra power and torque produced by the larger cylinder capacity this could mean your engine would struggle to pull the gears as its not producing the same power, I.E. if it won't or struggles to pull say fourth from 2k revs you would have to engage third to get the revs and speed higher to use fourth gear therefore you would be constantly stirring the gear box, not a nice way to drive, go on breakers yard on the internet and put in a request for what you want it won't cost you anything unless you buy a box or try an Audi breakers in London called Nirrol, I have used them a few times and the parts are good quality previously enjoyed items, it just shows you my system said it was a five speed box, changeover years are always painful. Steve.
  23. Hi they should both work even in tandem range, chances are the battery in the fob has died try that first. Steve.
  24. Hi the gearbox number will be in raised letters on top of the bell housing in its own little frame on my system its either an FVH or JHT both five speed manuals. Steve.
  25. Hi, could well be strut top mounts on the front the rubber goes hard and shrinks the knocking is normally a sign that the damper units have had their day and are not slowing the spring compression which makes the mount move up and down. Steve.
