  2. Thanks John, shame it’s now out of warranty. Not that it help you, but has it always been like this during your ownership, or has the situation deteriorated to what it is now? This would give a clue as to whether anything has now gone wrong. I think I recall reading that these do suffer from ‘turbo lag’ type rather slow off the mark, but…..   4. Thanks Granola, I do indeed understand your point of view. An alternative point of view could be that if say you (in caps) were to spend a considerable amount of time attempting to help others -on demand - and they can’t even be bothered to return to the forum to read the advice they ask for, then this alternative point of view may become more valid. You know, even seeing that a question-poster has had the courtesy to press the Like’ button can really be a welcome uplift, and demonstrates that it isn’t all about ‘I want, you know, you tell me’ , and I can’t even be bothered to take time to say thanks. I would have thought your location would have been all important to prospective buyers. ‘Benztrader’ suggests motor trader, or trader associated with Mercedes Benz.   9. Welcome Greg, and thanks for joining. Fuses blow to protect the circuit, so if it has blown, you will first need to know why. We take it your rear sensors aren’t working - totally - but do you get any bleep ( 10 second continuous) when you select reverse? Also, do the reversing lights work? Kind regards, Gareth.

  12. Hello Alex. I believe so. If you enter your registration number into on-line factor sites such as Parts in Motion, GSF etc. and search ‘ bake pad warning sensor’ then you should get confirmation via. the part being listed. Are you depending on such sensors to alert you to the need to renew the pads Alex? If so, not good practice. Kind regards, Gareth.
  13. Hello Bruno, Apologies, I don’t know if it is possible to modify the oil suction pipe to take a conventional dipstick, but hopefully someone will come along on here to help you with this. Re. Oil consumption:- I can see your Q5 is 2023, and so it can be expected that it’s early oil consumption will be higher than it will be when it has some mileage under its belt. To give you a better idea, we would need to know what mileage the vehicle has now covered, how much oil has it consumed during that mileage - assuming it hasn’t yet had its first oil change.   14. An alternative to washing up liquid could be ATF (auto transmission fluid). Sorry, I’ll bow to Steve’s three sizes. I know there’s a choice of two on the back, because it cost me to have bought the wrong size in the first place! Hope all goes well with it Miley. Kind regards, Gareth.
  15. ‘Trading Standards are dealing with it now’. Possibly pessimistic, but they will take all the details, give you a case number, and you probably won’t hear anything more. Meanwhile, your time limit for rejecting the car could well be exceeded. Would I depend on TS actually doing anything to aid your case?? No I wouldn’t.

  17. Many thanks Steve for clarifying this for the benefit of others. Hello Tony, I’m not sure what you now want to believe, but you have a battery of dubious origins, and I believe until you replace it with a reputable branded one, and get it coded to the car, you stand little chance of getting anywhere with this, but it must be your choice. From my side, and apologies if this appears critical, but you seem to be bombarding us with unnecessary detail. Anyway, back to your battery and charging check:- A couple of observations - the charging voltage measured at 13.8v at best, is below par, and I would be expecting around 14.5 volts. I’m not sure what he told you about CCA measurements, but surely Cold Cranking Current would be measured in what it is - amps. not volts. If you are going to decide on fitting a reputable branded battery, you won’t go far wrong with a correct-for-car Exide from Tayna Batteries. Give them your reg. no., and they will advise on the correct one. You will need to further investigate the alternator output.

  19. Hello Miley, First problem first:- what is the (cleaned up sufficiently to measure) dia. of your ARB? Believe it could be either 18mm or 21mm. Getting old ones out? Um! - splined fixings! - you will end up having to drill them out, and refit the new ones using suitable bolts and nuts. Dependent on what size your bar is, I might have a new and unused ‘bought the wrong size’ set here. I will have to check what diameter bar this set is for. Kind regards, Gareth.
  20. Thanks Tony, There’s an awful lot of information there that we don’t need, but…. You bought the latest battery because it was the cheapest you could get at the time-? Did you get it on-line or locally. It’s likely the battery should have been coded to the car, but not absolutely certain of that for your age car. Hopefully we will get some more experienced opinion on that. If it does need coding, then failure to code it can ( I believe) lead to over- charging, since the car will treat it as if it’s still the old one. Over charging can result in toasting the battery. Pulling terminals off should be totally unnecessary and should not be done. Let us know how you get on Tony, and give us an answer as to why you bought the brand you have now. Good batteries are an investment.

  23. Hello Tony, With any persisting electrical issue, it’s always worth getting the battery efficiency measured to establish whether it’s a contributory cause or not. Perhaps you could let us know whether you acquired the car with that battery, or if you bought it during your (how long?) ownership. Way forward:- take the car to an Halfords store and ask them to check the battery’s efficiency for you. Get the alternator output checked at the same time. If the battery is found to be sub standard, you may want to come back to us, before you buy a replacement from Halfords. My take on it, for what it’s worth:- It wouldn’t surprise me that the battery you have is ‘reconditioned reject’ bought because it was cheap. Please come back with the outcome - as Cliff says.
