Ok thanks for reply.  Took it to main dealer and of course diagnostic test did not reveal malfunction so advised to monitor it.  However, later I did notice that if I pull handle hard it seems to stop it from locking but I still do not think this should be necessary so will see how it goes.

Keep us posted on how you get on 🙂

Hi Steve that looks the better option, ask for a comprehensive list of what's been refurbished, yes its a lot more money but it will at least give you a solid platform to build on.

    Steve.

Exactly. I had to translate it in Google and it's had a full refresh.  I've asked if they ship to the UK. Not heard back yet but it's the weekend. To show the comparison in price, they have a used aym versions with 87k miles and its €300 less.

Hi Steve, I personally would not go anywhere near that one it looks like cheap trouble until you get the bill for the rebuild, go for a later engine thats got some history and runs, not some vague statement that it did and then spent an indeterminate time in storage, no milage, I think he wants to go to the pub on someones £80, I have made the same mistake in the past especially when driven by desperation, take your time send your cash wisely and make sure what goes in at least works.

Thanks Steve, think I'm looking at the last of the line bau version. I've found this refurbished one in Germany, and I've messaged them with a few questions regarding the turbo etc.

Every time I go out in my 80 something breaks and it has to be towed home, that something usually I am able to fix and then something else breaks. Pre pandemic this would not be a problem, post pandemic parts are expensive and have a lead time of about 10 working days.

Up until now I have managed to get replacement parts but this time I have a real problem. The Throttle Position sensor has given up to open circuit, the car is sluggish to drive, putting out about 60bhp, about half power and the idle is irratic, backed up by error code  00516.

The car has nice details and I do want to keep it. I believe it is the last Avant with the 16v 2.0 Ace engine on the UK roads.

I have seen some second hand parts, but with it being  a sealed unit, how do I know it is not going to instantly break on the next outing, as mine did, also I do not want to pay the cost of  a new one for the privilege.

part numbers that are on the case are:

    • 0 280 120 426
    • vw 048 133 154

Does anyone know of a way to refurbish the unit?

Does anyone have circuit diagrams of this unit

Can anyone tell me the pinout data on the car?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I feel that we are being punished by lack of parts supply, something to do with the WOKE establishment and the WEF objectives to get to Net zero, it is so unfair.

It is not the car it is the world situation.

    Bump! I am upset.

I feel your pain, as it's the same situation with Audi's from the 90s/noughties like my A6.

I agree it's due to the wef agenda. Eu looking at banning garages from doing major repairs to old cars like engine changes/rebuilds etc so they can get them off the road.

I need a replacement engine in my A6 and think I've finally found a way to get another one fitted.

But long term the only way old cars will remain in the road is to use engines etc from cars with huge parts supplies like Chevy ls motors for example.

  5. Speaking from someone owning a similar aged A6 it's electrical gremlins and issues with imobilisers. My engine has gone bang, and trying to get the car back on the road is proving a nightmare. Engines and engine parts are getting in short supply etc.

Hi Steve your mechanic is correct, due to Audis practise of using the same engine but putting different emissions gear on them and giving the engine a different designation you are almost certain to be successful as the basic block will be the same as will the heads, if you look at the engines for my A6 CNHA most of the parts were common to the DETA,DDDA,same engine different horsepower which is controlled by the ECU, ergo unless the engine has a mind of its own it will wait for the ECU to tell it what to do.

    Steve.

Thanks Steve. It's just so confusing when those on A6 C5 Facebook groups give mixed information.

I did find this engine which I'm debating to take a pint on. It turns freely but has no history.

If this is a genuine option then I wonder where a later bau or Ake engine (both 180bhp) would be a better option as they'll be detuned due to my ECU.

  7. Hello all, my mechanic believes that if I keep my ECU and injectors and put it in a 2.5tdi that has different engine code then the car should work fine as the imobiliser/ECU will think it's the old engine.

I know the Ake and bau are different heads but would the 150bhp and 163bhp engines have the similar design to aym. As such would this work just adding my ECU and injectors to the different engine code. Then I wouldn't needs to code the pump ect.

Would it also work for bau or Ake even though heads are different?

Just want full clarity before I buy any engine as I'm still under the impression the injection pump, instrument cluster and ECU have to match.

I'm tearing my hair out now as I just want the A6 back running so any help will be appreciated.

  8. Dpf might need replacing if the cleaning doesn't work.

Regarding the power steering, how old is the car battery? I ask because if it's over 5-7 years old then it could be failing. This can cause the car to throw up all sorts of electrical issues.
