  1. Hi guys, can anyone recommend a good place to get my 3.0 tdi le mans re mapped in or near Liverpool? Many thanks.
  2. Hi if you have the remap you will definitely have to use the 97/99 premium or use a proprietary quality octane booster as an additive to 95 otherwise you start burning valves etc, but the thing that baffles me is why, with all that power as standard or do we have a track day planned, cars with a standard state of tune like that have come from the factory in a high state of tune and the bonus with that is there is also a high reliability factor built in, mapping eats into the reliability factor but aim sure the mapping boys will say not, the manufacturer makes sure the clutch and gearbox will live with this power as standard if you start throwing different torque curves and more BHP invairiably major components will fail faster, I cite the case of the VW Golf GTI owner who at 36k had his car remapped, happy days 60bhp more and another 40nm of torque until the clutch retired 4k later and another two grand bill for an uprated clutch, not so happy. Steve.
  3. Hi, new here! I just got an A3 TDI Stport 1.6. 67 reg. A few questions: a) Exhaust: can a single exhaust be converted to double? I guess the rear bumper needs to be adapted or replaced. b) Re-mapping: anyone here tried it on this model? I sense the results can be great. c) Internal mods: what is available to make it look more sporty? d) What's your favourite mod? Cheers! Alex
  4. P2453 P0472 P2002 added DPF additive seems to do the trick, but I keep hearing about cutting out DPF pipe insert then re mapping out sensors my question is this common is it legal.
  5. Hi my audi a6 avant adblu won't refill as if the flap won't open. Iv done 14000 miles and now just had 1st stage re mapping and now it's come on dash as adblu 25 miles to refill. Has my car had a deleted adblu with flap not opening.
  6. Thanks for the replies guys, taking to a mapping company, or to a recommended Audi specialist isn’t an option! One last question to you both! Is the cars ECU looking for swirl flaps, when they’re not there? I’ve been given VagCom, can this tell ECU swirl flaps are deleted!
  7. TRM automotive. Speak to Tim the owner. VAG specialist. Does everything from mapping to geometry etc. I won’t go anywhere else.
  8. Hi depending on who provides the mapping for France I am sure whoever does the mapping, Garmin, Navteq, will be patently aware of the laws of the road for that country so it won't be on there, its only because we have the most cameras in Europe that we have it, even if it does appear which I doubt just have a map spread out on the wifes lap and turn the nav off if you are stopped, TBH I don't think they are that interested. Steve.
  9. Have always wondered about mapping options on my car, currently a 2.0tdi 170bhp just want to know if anyone has had this done on same engine, from my understanding my engine is a 140bhp but then Audi mapped them to be 170bhp, not sure how true this is but makes sense, I'd be interested in a remap mainly as I here it can be better on fuel plus more torque and power hopefully someone can shed some light, I don't want to get it mapped if it's going to put even more strain on the engine components regards
  10. Hi all I have an audi a4 avant auto 143 bhp was thinking about having it re-mapped just wondering if anyone can advise me on whether it damages the engine and if it increases the power and torch by much? also is there any particular make anyone can recommend for this 2013 model.any feedback would be great. many thanks andy
  11. Hi not to put to finer point to this, why would anyone buy a fifteen year old car thats been mapped, I can only assume that it must have been an attractive proposition to you at the time, have you any idea how much extra power that map produced, do you know the original mapping agent as most companies that do this process properly cost a lot of money because they do things like delete the original map but back it up in case of future problems and use one of the other map paths in the ECU, I have even seen case in point one of my neighbours sons with a year old Vauxhall Corsa that his dad had bought him so he could commute back and forth to university, tops up one of his computer sciences mates had lifted a remap off the internet and installed that, junior mentioned none of this until a rather irate engineer who had diagnosed the vehicle came out and informed his dad that they can't fix the car under warranty because it had been interfered with which voided the warranty, end result was a new ECU £2000 plus fitting, there are so many John Wayne mappers out there it makes me cry, why do you think most automotive software writers are on about two hundred grand a year, anything outside that and the people are just playing at it as they don't get two years testing and a Dyno set up to fine tune what they have written. Steve.
  12. It sounds as if you have clapped out the engine with your mapping tweaks and some hard driving. Unfortunately a short engine life is the price for high performance.
  13. So I have this dreaded c123efo code in regards to my ecu audi a4 2017, I went up to the dealer I bought the car off and I was told the car needs to be remapped and to bring it to them in two weeks. Question is remapping a solution to this issue. I have this car less than a year when this problem occured and when they were doing a service the mechanic accidently spilled coolant on the engine when he was replacing my filter, which happened to spill all around the plastic cover that hides the servo sensor and other components like brake fluid etc. Should I have to pay if it is a re mapping issue? If I have to have the ecu rebuilt how much will that cost all in. TIA!!
  14. Hi again as Steve said don't buy cheap, the guy in the van is not a good shout and the mapping will lead to future problems, alternatively leave it alone as the accelerated insurance premium will add extra cost, and both the modifications this and a previous post could land you in a world of pain if you haven't declared them to the insurance company, they will be pleased to tell you where to go if you had an accident and neither mods were declared as it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to work out that no AUDI as standard is fitted with coilover suspension therefore their next port of call would be to check the ECU, its like a paper trail to a disaster, in essence anything fitted to a road vehicle that is not standard is a get out for the insurance if not declared with the exception of aftermarket where the supplier can prove they have supplied this part at some point to the manufacturer, then its legal. Steve.
  15. Hi guys, Can anyone guide me somewhere where I can update the mapping data on the A7 2011 that I pick up on Saturday please?
  16. Hi the job itself is an absolute bar steward its a major strip down which involves dropping the subframe driveshaft and exhaust but if thats the fitting price only and does not include the valve I reckon he is trying to price himself out of that job, they put the EGR half way down the back of the block so its under the cat at the top and behind the exhaust and subframe at the bottom, even the safer option of mapping the EGR out will cause problems with the turbo life and engine bay temps as the engine runs hotter and the exhaust side of the turbo gets to work in a couple of hundred degrees higher gas temp which shortens its life, I would shop about for some other quotes before diving in. Steve.
  17. Hi, there lies the problem, most of these mobile people, Techs shall we call them, arrive and plug in take your money and clear off, normally they are considered cheaper than say a static remap company, which they are they have no premises to pay for and often as not have just a basic software program and not the same tailored software platform as for example Blufin, if you buy from them they will go through extensive questioning of what you expect and then give you realtime options of what you can realistically achieve as per the milage on the vehicle, you then get a loading device and its normally a ten minute job to load it via the OBD port, all of their software programs are checked for quality before they get to the end user and the advantage of their system is that you can upload the mapping back out, yes these types of companies are more expensive but what you get is bullet proof technology. If the mapping is working ok just buy another EGR valve and fit it and leave it there, if you block it in another few months you will probably start getting some more codes/lights as the ECU will have worked out there is no gas flow and thats why the EGR is not sending it any data to tell it when the valves open/closed because the valve is jammed in a ton of soot where its backed up past the blanking, mapping out changes the command protocol and tells it to stay shut, the other down side is my mate did it on his transit and over miles the red hot gass melted the blanking plate and allowed the super heated gas into the engine bay which in turn melted the fan housing at the front, remapping is a multi faceted industry and if you go mad with it power wise it causes horrendous and expensive problems which I have personally witnessed on some occasions, it comes down to the old saying, IF YOU WANT FAST,BUY FAST, believe me its cheaper in the long run. Steve.
  18. Hi all , Purchased an a4 2.0tdi sline 140bhp a couple of months back. I find the car really underpowered for the size , it runs spot on but feels like it needs a bit more go. Anyone know what they map like they say they can too 170bhp was wondering if there's anything else that might add a bit more is it poss to get 200bhp out of one ? Any advice would be appropriated thanks
  19. Hi all Just bought an 09 plate Q5 & it looks like it doesn't have the Bluetooth module installed with the current system (Audi concert sound system) any ideas if this can be activated or requires a module to be fitted? When you press the button on the system it advises that the phone is not active I'm also looking to get it mapped (south coast) so any recommendations for who to see, or not see would be helpful Last one on the list is an LED rear light upgrade & xenon front light upgrade, I've looked @ OEM options, has anyone had any experience of after market options, again, good & bad Thanks Ginny
  20. Hello Philip, Sorry to hear of your issue. In theory, the warranty might hold, but in reality, they have the upper hand, since the car has been modified - although the mapping is unlikely to have had any bearing over these issues. Of course, you could get assistance in arguing the case, but will you win?? If it were mine, I would be having the car back from them as quickly as possible, and getting the work done at a trusted local garage. Kind regards, Gareth.
  21. Good Moring All, A real 1st world problem here. I've had my 2017 A6 Allroad for 3 months. When I got the car I put a three mobile data sim in the dashboard. All worked well for about a month with 4g enabling google earth maps to be displayed nicely. Then the car stopped picking up 4g, leaving just 3g available, so no more google earth mapping displayed. I've spoken with three mobile a few times, and they've changed the sim card, but still no 4g. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Might it be something to do with the car, rather than the network? Driving the same routes when 4g was initially working, so I know the network coverage is available. Thoughts gratefully received!
  22. hi all, im looking for a little advise, i own a b7 rs4 06 plate with 65000 miles on it, its totally standard (engine wise) 420bhp, what benefits would i get out of remapping it? ie, extra bhp? fuel consumption etc, or would i be aswell getting it chipped, not keen on spending a small fortune if im not gaining much,so thats why im asking you guys for your help, i look forward to hearing from you all thanks.
  23. Hi just wanting alittle info please if anyone can help I've got my first diesel car and at the moment I'm loving driving the a4 but I've being told that if the dpf filter starts to do a dickie fit then it's expensive to replace and it's better to remove it altogether will be a lot better for the car n engine itself plus a mapp on the car with make it a lot smoother n responsive etc so if anyone has done this to there car can you give me some info please My spec is: 2007 2.0tdi sline 140bhp 113 full service history car Many thanks Damian
  24. Thanks Gareth, Yes - probably overkill to do the pump but it nearly has to come out to change the thermostat (following workshop manual), and I have a tendency to belt and braces... thanks for the heads-up about Cardiff and Aberdeen... Lincoln Audi were accommodating with a little discount (possibly due to a sympathetic 2007 A4 Q owner on the parts desk 👍). Oh - check codes as per Steve's Q: P2181 - 'engine coolant temperature mapping is lower and out of expected range based on operating conditions of the engine' - makes sense. Another Q: ever used or heard of some who has used: http://www.enginecarbonclean.com/our-uk-pricing/ £100 seems good assuming it actually removes any carbon... Best M
  25. Hi Malc, I like the statement under tuned, thats whats known in the trade as the reliability factor the car manufacturers always bump up the BHP when testing to insane levels until engine components systematically fail they will address these problems by using another stronger component or beefing up things like con rods etc then when they are happy that these things will no longer break in that level of tune they then reverse the tuning by about 40% this is the reliability factor, they then go on a massive road trip through various climates throughout the world testing thing such as aircon performance and dust sensitivity of climate control, we then get to colder hemispheres where the cabin and engine cooling systems are trialed for efficiency and passenger comfort over what ends up as starship milage, all this data is logged and collated to give an overall assessment of the vehicles suitability for every market they are ever likely to sell their cars in, small design changes for colder climates are made by the addition of engine block heaters and fuel fired cabin pre heaters. As for the remap that is a personal decision, I am not a massive fan personally but there are others who will tell you whatever I say is rubbish but from what I have witnessed over my lifetime they can be a complete disaster, go faster chip boxes at the lower end of the scale all work on the same principle, they go between the fuel rail and the fuel rail temperature sensor these devices send back a signal to the ECU that the engine is cold so the fuel enrichment device stays on, yes you get more power but the end result is over fuelling which gets fuel into the sump oil and destroys the oil lubricity in record time this = premature engine wear. We then get to the type of remap that involves removing the ECU and replacing microprocessors in the unit all well and good until you consider that the two most expensive production parts on a car are the interior and the microprocessors in the ECU they pay top dollar for the latter to gain the reliability they require, the one thing I know for certain is these companies cant afford the same microprocessors although they will tell you theirs are better than the manufacturers this is rubbish as the manufacturer sourced microprocessor is capable of executing a command ten times faster than microprocessors on a commercial airliner. Then there is the remap device through the OBD port these were always less problematic as the map can be retrieved to the loading device and the car goes back to the normal mapping, as I say its a personal choice but you cant get away from the old advice, if you want fast buy factory fast as they have spent billions developing fast and reliable and would not leave massive power gains on the table for some company to pick up with some trick software and charge you £300-500 to install, do you not consider that people like Audi would not rather have that themselves by selling a retrofit software, they won't do it because remaps inherently involve more fuel at some point which raises emissions and eats into the reliability factor, plus the fact they would have to have a statutory warranty can you imagine how many people would be screaming when it goes horribly wrong, just look at the current emissions scandal. well thats my ten pence worth and realistically not everyone would agree, thats the privilege of democracy and free speech. Regards Steve.
