  2. Thanks for the clarification Mike. Having established that the system did work as expected for a considerable time under Octopus's control via its app, and then stopped working after a 12 volt fault and subsequent battery change, two possibilities occur to me. Firstly the cars charging circuits may have been affected by the 12 volt fault. That can be tested by using another granny charger at another location and without any involvement of an app. Is that possible by visiting another EV owner with working equipment? Do you have another granny charger of your own you can take elsewhere? The other possibility is the internet connection in the car has been affected by the 12 volt fault. I don't really know how you can test that unfortunately. Sorry I can not be more precise. I believe the way to isolate the source of the problem is to change just one part of the system at a time i.e. charger, location, app involvement, wifi signal. Alternatively take the car to Audi for diagnosis though you don't need me to tell you that is going to be expensive. It is not widely appreciated that EVs are surprisingly prone to 12 volt problems. Some manufacturers even recommend a new battery every three years.
  3. Hey My 04' 3.2 A3 decided to shed it's clutches in the DSG, 113k miles or so done well for 3 years. I decided to call it a day, I spent enough time and money on it. I have replaced it with a 2008 SE 3.0tdi, what difference, so much better than the 16plate Passat I had to scrap, and about 50bsteps better than the A3, Had a few issues but that's why I managed to get it so cheap. I know but cheap buy twice but this isn't the case. I do have a couple of issues that need resolved First is the rear brakes, needs disc's and pads, needs an under tray, which I've purchased a metal Scut Protection replacement, the inner rear tail lights which were bought refurbished from China. The last thing to do is a oil and filter service.

  5. The charging is supposed to be controlled by Octopus under their intelligent go tariff that gives good rate between 11.30 pm and 05.30am. I have turned off the charge timers in the car and am using the 3 pin granny charger that has no timer function. When I plug in and switch on the charger starts charging as indicated by the pulsing light on both charger and car. After a short time Octopus recognises that I want to charge, presumably a signal from the car, and they tell the car to stop the charge and send me their proposed schedule, on their app of charging through the cheap rate period. I have been doing this for the two years or so that I have owned the car. The problems started about 3 months ago after I started getting messages that the 12v battery was low. After replacing the battery, including telling the car that it had been changed, the first charge worked fine, but since then nothing but trouble. I have noticed that after a failed attempt to charge one of the car timers that I have turned off is showing that it as set up for a charge some days in the future and has mysteriously turned itself on, definitely not by me! The only settings I have made are in the Octopus app - Level of charge required and by what time
  6. Alan. Do you intend to publicly respond to the replies you have received on both these topics? I know you have seen them.
  7. Hi Cliff, yes it did have a front knock and new light and bumper i believe. Can the headlight be adjusted?
  8. Hi ok I appreciate this where would I get the kit from? Also where is it located on the transmission? Thanks Gary
  9. Dev. I don't believe the headlight has been misaligned for its ten year existence, so what has recently changed? Has the car been crashed and a new unit fitted?
  10. Mike. Is that a new problem or has charging always been troublesome? It is not clear to me what device is supposedly controlling charging. Is it [1] a wall mounted charge point, [2] the car itself, or [3] the Audi app on your phone? Can you clarify please? All three have timers which can conflict with each other. [1] and [3] both require an internet or mobile signal, [2] needs no external service and hence one might expect it to be more reliable , however history on this forum has proven the matter of car charging to be problematic to say the least. My own experience of car charging via five different wall boxes was a nightmare that only ended when I got rid of them all, and reverted to a simple plug in charge point (the so-called granny charger) with a built in delay timer. I have to admit that was more to do with the car's inadequate software than any deficiencies of the wall boxes, but it has made me aware that it is too easy for those companies to pass the blame for faults on to each other.

  12. Just stumbled across this page. I've had a brake servo error appear on the dash, no lights though. Having read through plenty of comments, a lot of you have suggested getting a replacement from Amazon, I just wondered what people's experience was and how reliable were they? For context my local garage have quoted me £88 for a replacement but can't get it until Monday at the earliest!

  14. Sorry to hear that. Looks like you will have to have a rebuild if possible. ZF should have a rebuild kit available. More Information for ZF 1060298031 {Alternate Inventory Numbers: 1060.298.031}. I had this kit installed in our tranny: Transgo Pressure Regulator Valve Repair Kit Fits ZF5HP-19 5-land style pressure regulator valve body only. Our ZF5HP-19 PR valve is a simple fix with no reaming or special tools required. The ZF5HP-19 Pressure Regulator Repair kit is a simple fix you can do while the transmission is still in the vehicle. This kit addresses the PR valve malfunction that causes rough or bangy shifts complaints. Be sure to identify your valve body. This fits the 5-land style pressure regulator valve body only. Corrects/Prevents/Reduces:Runaway pressure that breaks drums Kick-down bang Harsh shifts
  15. Well it has taken Audi 20 months, but out of the blue they have finally delivered the towbar for my S5 Avant - which I wanted and enquired about at day one! Cambridge Audi have the car and are fitting it today and tomorrow. Having had great success using my old S4 Avant for towing on occasions when I needed to move one of my old cars on a trailer, I partly chose the S5 for its high towing capacity - but for the last year and 8 months I have had to rent a truck instead because Audi could not supply (though they have been fitting them on the production line all this time). The cost is a little under £2,000 fitted, which is pretty steep, but you can't fit an aftermarket one (e.g. from Witter) because apparently it will not be compatible with the software! I had a detachable Witter one on my S4 and naively thought I didn't need to wait 4 or 5 months for a special order S5 with Audi towbar from the factory. Supposedly the software does clever things, like not jamming on the brakes when you try to reverse with this vehicle (i.e. trailer) detected by the radar as an object you are about to hit! We'll see, though I don't know when I will next have to use it as I have sold the car I most often had to transport. Still waiting for the next (4th) software update to solve outstanding gremlins. And need to replace all the tyres - worn out after just 11,000 miles. I used to get 25,000 to 30,000 miles from the S4's tyres. Good to hear you are all enjoying yours. I do too, mostly, but in more sober moments realise I would have been better to buy the Volvo alternative.
  16. So what ‘debris’ are you looking to remove from what part of the exhaust Neil? A photo would be helpful. Regards, Gareth.

  22. Is anybody having trouble charging with Octopus Go. I have been trying for 2 weeks to get my A3 to charge without success. I have at octopus's suggestion fitted a new 12v Battery (new battery was coded to the car) and that night full charge was successful. Since then small amount of charge or nothing. I have switched off the car timers as Octopus suggest to no avail. Interestingly after a failed charge one of the timers has changed to a random date in the future. Communication with the car does not seem to be a problem as Octopus are able to switch the charge off when I plug in outside the cheap rate hours (11.30.to 05.30) as normal. I have switched off any charge settings in the my audi app - again at octopus suggestion Octopus are suggesting that there may be a problem with the AUDI cloud servers. Any input welcome Thanks MikeB4
  23. Whatever else you do or get concerned about, please make sure you insure this car on an agreed value basis, otherwise you certainly will lose money.
  24. I didn't realise the charges involved, unfortunately it's a bit of a minefield if you go down the import route. You mention worrying about the car's depreciation if you opt for this car which is currently on 82k miles. Even if you stay within a modest 4k miles per year, then you're going to get to around 100k miles in 4½ years, but by then the car will be over 23 years old. At the end of the day - you're over-thinking this. You're buying a performance car, and it will require servicing and spare parts while you own it, plus insurance, road tax, etc. It is what it is. I don't think you can realistically guarantee a future value, short of sealing it in an air conditioned garage on axle stands. If you were thinking of a physical investment, you could potentially go down the B5 RS4 Avant route. That said - there's a mint example on Autotrader under 20k miles finished in Avus Silver. That's never going to be realistically driven and will probably spend the rest of it's life trailered to car shows, plus it's £70k. Best of luck of luck though whatever you do.
  25. Yeah I changed both because I drove it in limp mode and it blew the box up. Gutted can’t find another tranny anywhere
  26. Sorry to hear that. I narrowly escaped that being able to dry out the TCM. You actually needed a different tranny? Not just a working TCM?

  30. Hi all I’m having issues with my auto gearbox. The tcu got fried because of water damage from the drain being blocked. I got another gearbox from fitted it still no joy. I’ve been told the fluid transmission pump had failed. Can any help or advise me on what I can do or does anyone have another gearbox? Thanks Gary

  33. Fair enough Steven - you must obviously do what you want with your money, but I must say, I’m still rather confused about your concerns on the car’s future depreciation. If you love the car then that is fine, but beware what they say about love. I genuinely wish you well with fulfilling your dream. Regards, Gareth.
  34. Hi. Thanks Spartacus 68 for the detailed reply. The car has exceptional history with a sizeable history folder with a recent major service and a change of all fluids totalling €2,000. Added to this , i have also spoken to two of the specialists who maintained the car wh⁹ say they cannot fault the car and say its spotless underneath with no corrosion noted. These cars are thin on the ground here in Ireland and to find an original Irish car is even rarer. Importing from the UK is not an option as it would cost more with all of the import charges. Crazy import charges here now with Nox. VRT. and VAT. Csr tax on this is €1800 a year, not sure what it would be in the UK. From speaking to the dealer , i can get the car for €45,000 for a straight sale. The only reservation i have is future mileage hurting the resale value if i were to ever resell. Some thinking to do!
