jim008 started following A3 E 104 TDI - No codes, no warning lights, throttle dies.

Hello. Thanks for looking in. So I have a 2008 A3 E 104 TDI. As mentioned, it is having a problem with intermittent throttle loss. Almost feels like it's braking or dropping gear. The odb shows no error codes, no engine warning light. It doesn't make any unusual noises. Runs great for a while, 4 miles or so, then drags. I've noticed on hills the accelerator dies altogether until released, then ok for a second, then dies again. Had it at the mechanics who replaced the butterfly valve, but it has not fixed the problem. It runs great, before it doesn't. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, my A3 has developed a parasite loss on S131 circuit, which sounds like a relay clicking open & closed under the centre console, around the hand brake or auto shift lever. Can anyone offer advice??

Hi Gareth, apparently it’s not the hose that’s the problem it is the plastic T piece ( I enclose photo of similar) and this is what Audi quoted just shy of £ 300 apparently this T clip carries valves inside you will know better than me, so could u offer a way of obtaining this T piece. Regards Alan

Hello Jax, Taking it you are DIYing this service -? If so what brand and grade oil are you using, and what brands of oil, air and pollen filters? Current mileage and when last serviced? Regards, Gareth.

Hello Naresh, You don’t tell us how much coolant you are losing in x miles, so no one can logically advise you. Regards, Gareth.

Coolant leaks rarely get better. I understand it's a lot of money, but you you run a risk on say a longer journey where the car is to temperature, or even dumps coolant and leaves you stranded. Couple of options, park it up until you have the necessary funds and use for short run journeys. Not sure what you have transport wise near you for commuting, but suspect it's a damn sight better than north of the wall!

Just had a pressure test done and the end result is the change over valve inside the ‘V’ of the engine needs replacing. Apparently it’s a big job where most parts of the engine needs to be dismantled. Not been given a quote yet but looking in the region of £1000. The question is that the coolant leak isn’t so surveyor, therefore leaving it for the time being will the problem get worse? Will it cause further damage if its not resolved straight away? Thanks in advance NJP10

Yes mate, I’m going to run the ori file in the morning and see if it solves the MAF but I can’t understand how the map would alter the MAF as it’s the first sensor along the chain

Fair enough, was just thinking because the cat had been removed. Was there a sensor in the cat?

I know how that feels. As I've been in the same boat.

The sensors come in a matt black plastic. I actually thing that sensor is painted. I could be wrong, but there looks like a corrosion on the surface. Check with Audi, I think it’s called platinum gray and finished in satin matt. Removing the wheel arch isn’t too big a deal. You need to twist the old sensor out and unhook the wiring anyway, so even tight access isn’t likely to work.

Still no update unfortunately, i am trying to find someone who can rebuild the engine for me in Hull area, so far not much luck.
