Hi all i  retrofit Xenons and auto level controls to my audi A5 2013

since i have done this i have lost my front pdc and front windscreen washer

i have the front pdc displayed on the mmi screen but they just dont show how close i am to things

i have checked continuity on the washer wires and they are fine if i go in to measuring blocks i can see the when i pull the stalk that the signal is being received and i have checked the washer pump on another car and that's fine

i have changed my bcm1 from 8K0 907 063 DC to 8K0 907 063 DH i have also had component protection removed

can anyone help or point me in the right direction to start looking at things

My advice would be to get an auto electrician to take a look. However hate to be a barer of bad news but the UK government has changed the rules regarding vehicle lighting. I believe you a now not allowed to upgrade a car lighting system from what it was when it left the factory. It is/going to be an mot fail.

How would they know it’s all been done to oem spec lights auto level and headlight washers?

Hi, Steve is right as all the new MOT equipment throws up the build specs for lighting etc so the tester knows what he had to check, my local garage I use has an MOT bay next door, when I was down there earlier this week I was chatting to the tester about the pile of H4 Led bulbs on top of the the bench, apparently they are from the many MK5/6 Fiestas he MOTs for the local boy racers he used to be able to give a non urgent advisory about the foggy beam pattern but one year on its now law they have to be fitted with the type of bulb the car left the factory with.

I admire your reasoning but you have done everything bar fitting a range control module for the self levelling system as on Audis with this fitted way before your year have all had this, even my A6 has one as that is HID but has no washers for the lights as it comes fitted with D5S 25w bulbs which use less power than say D3S/D1S which are all 55w therefore under European law washers are not required, as for your other problems its not recognising the new BCM for some reason, when your car reached the end of the production line it is then plugged into a massive mainframe computer which dishes out the correct software version for each module on the build specification, what type of lights used, what fuel used, what engine power output is required, all these modules talk to the ECU which digests the information while in contact with that software version it recognises, no recognition no communication then the ECU starts cancelling functions that it can't recognise from that software, you really should see the size of the Sony can bus I had to have fitted when my cab meter was fitted just to stop the BCM from spitting its dummy out, thats why hardwire dash cams are clever as they piggy back on to an existing fuse or a designated spare fuse station but are never noticed as they draw less than 2amps, the electrical system is designed to ignore really low voltage drains as they don't have the potential to cause real problems within the programmed perameters.

Steve.

I have fitted range control address 55 on my auto scan. Don’t suppose you have a link or any online info regarding the build spec being check at the mot station as I’m not able to find anything online. Would be good to have a read up on it.

Hi I think this information is exclusive to the stations as it beggars belief the amount of double logins and the swipe card that is used just to get into the system, its getting that tricky now as in the old days with the emissions if you had a car that had failed you could always use a car that had passed and use that reading but now because the Vin has to be entered it knows what it should be checking so if any other vehicle is used it clocks up a fail if there is any descrepency, they are electronically heading at type approval even though its a European thing and we are not in it anymore, I think your main problem is the non compatible software programmed into the new BCM, also I would be checking if that year and model were ever produced with HIDs if yes then you are in with a shout as you could always tell them it was a grey import as normally information on those is pretty rare, as for the software I would not know where to begin as thats a bit above my pay grade, as for the MOT info I am only going on what I have been told by a couple of testers, I have two MOTs a year as my car is used as a cab, I had fitted higher output bulbs before the last one and the tester spent ages looking at the headlights and then commented they seemed brighter in the beam reader so I just told him I had replaced the bulbs so he pulled a face and let it go.

All coding was saved and double checked between both modules I used turns out there’s a fault in the DH module as the old module was put back in everything worked brought another DH module and everything works with that one so It could only be a faulty module just need to get component protection removed again.

Hi Glen I did a bit of digging today and phoned the most sensible tester I know, it appears Steve and myself were a bit adrift on this one, he must have read the same legislation I did last year which has changed again this year, the guy sent me a bulletin he had received this year, apparently according to him the legislation is aimed at people who bore holes in their halogen head lights and then fit retro fish eye lenses and Hid units or the same with LED bulb conversions as he explained if your car is fitted with O.E. Specific headlight units and all the relevant equipment to operate them he couldn't see a problem with that as it may well have come as an option, what the tester is looking for is a nice sharp beam cut off with no vague cut off lines and the o/s unit cut off being slightly under the n/s. I owe you a big fat apology as you have done everything in the correct order and I was wrong.

Steve.

If you think we were confused that won't even come close to what the testers are dealing with, my chap is constantly dealing with the latest changes they keep introducing and then change their mind a while later, example all cars emissions should meet the figure on the production sticker on the drivers door rocker panel, so if it did not have a sticker you had to fail the car, then they sent out a directive if it has not got the sticker as long as the levels don't exceed the max permissible on the VOSA chart the car passes even if it might have had a lower figure on the now absent sticker.

Hmm, now how is that fair. I'd be tempted to remove the stickers on my two old cars including my a6 out if principal.
