Cruise control stops working

2012 Automatic 2.0l diesel A4 Avant, cruise control randomly stops working.

The button on the stalk feels like it loses its spring as well, and the cruise control will not work until I have switched off and on the ignition, then the button feels normal.

All very weird

Anybody had this issue before?
