1.9tdi issues

Featured Replies

Hi, I’ve just bought a 1998 A4 1.9tdi quattro, it’s been sat for 10 years and I don’t know when it last ran(suspect a few years ago) so I got it home and stuck a battery on it, it starts and runs for 2 or 3 seconds then dies. I suspect it’s the immobiliser as the light keeps flashing. I’m going to get the immobiliser deleted from the ecu but before this I wondered if there’s any way to get it running by bypassing anything. Having been sat so long I’d like to get it running and up to temp before spending any real cash on it. Any help appreciated.

It only came with one key and I suspect with being sat so long without power it need re-programmed? Clocks seem to work except the pixelated screen in the centre, ecu has been removed as there was damp in the box, however I’m assuming it’s ok as it starts briefly.

I thought the immobiliser maybe just cut off the fuel supply’s I hard wired the fuel solenoid on the pump and the tank pump but it still starts for 2 seconds then dies so I assume it disables other things too.

PUT LIVE  FEED TO  THE PUMP  THATS  WHAT  I DO

Do you mean the fuel shut off solenoid on the pump, I’ve tried hot wiring that, even took out the plunger but still cuts out after 2 sec. or is there another power supply to the pump.

The pixelated screen is a common issue. Damp? If you've got damp in the ECU or ccm this could be your major issue.

Just sent the ecu away for a check and immobiliser delete. Will keep you posted.

So I had the immobiliser deleted from the ecu and the car now runs, few other jobs to sort but these will probably have to wait as I bought the 2.5tdi Quattro Avant listed for sale on this forum. The 1.9 tdi may be for sale soon.😁
