59 plate a3 convertible 2l diesel  driving down road starts holding back then cuts out after which it won't start just turns over not firing just spinning over anyone got any ideas

Hi get the car diagnosed with a scanner the code that comes up will give you a clue to whats failing, wild guess is its a fuelling problem possibly the lift pump in the tank.

Yeah checked with diagnostic no fault found apart from passenger door lock!

door lock not a fault?

did you clear /repair the door lock ?

Unless that was a professional grade scanner it can not be relied upon. The cheap scanners from China are cheap for a reason.
