Boot of A5 sportsback to heavy

Featured Replies

Hi

I have just purchased an A5t Sportsback 2015 plate

The boot is not automatic and is just to heavy for my wife to lift

Are these Spring Assisted dampers any good

If so what make would you suggest.,

Hi its probably the original units have lost some gas so if you just replace them they should be ok, FEBI, Stabilo any aftermarket brand should do it just buy the heavy duty model.

Hi Steve.

Thanks for the reply.

The existing ones seem to hold the long boot up once its

part lifted manually.

I just got this A5 on friday. its a 15 plate with 50k on the clock.

mint condition.

Reading all the problems quoted on here I am getting nervous. lol.

If I replace them I may go for the spring loaded in any case .

I will keep the forum up to date as I go

If it's the spring loaded ones I'm thinking of that give auto boot opening function be careful. Quality can be questionable. I've seen cases on the A6 c5 groups of them failing inside 3 months.

Hi Steve.

Yes I understand .

I did have to replace a pair on a Camry I had I just traded it in

last week for the A5.

I had it from new in 1996 till last week lol  127k on it.

They seemed to be ok .

The A5 is still very new to me.

I wish it had a handbrake lol,

I think its best I take a damper off and see it its tired.

Nice to have this place to help me out.

I am for sure a Newbie with the A5

Take care thanks for the assistance

Hi Guys.

Following on from my "new"  2015 A5 Sportsback hatch back being  very heave to lift.

Manual not powered.

I have this week  after a firm discussion with her indoors who cant lift it at all.

Changed the Dampers this week.

1 Of the originals Ii could depress say near 3 inches.

Other ok.

Replace them has made no difference to the heavy starting lift at all

Other than a little faster swing more like half way up

I could not depress the new ones at all.

Am I missing some thing
