Marco315 Posted September 5, 2023 Share Posted September 5, 2023 Can anyone help me, I have a 2006 3.0tdi Q7 which cut out and won’t start. I’ve scanned the car and found the following faults. I’ve tried replacing the battery, high pressure fuel pump, injectors and still not getting anywhere. I can see it says the DPF pressure sensor and exhaust gas temp sensor but then there is glow plugs 1-6 all open circuit. To me there seams to just be too many errors for all them things to have failed. Defeatist perhaps, but if it were mine, I would now simply entrust this to a trusted local diesel specialist, and at least get nearer to the root cause, before you throw more good money after bad. End-------------------------(Elapsed Time: 02:51)-------------------------- Hi most of the dates for these fault codes are prehistoric so I would delete the lot I bet they wont return, my guess would be the low pressure fuel pump in the tank as this manifests itself as a high pressure pump issue as the low pressure side is not supplying enough fuel, easy to diagnose as if you get a container with about a litre of fuel and a suitable length of fuel hose and connect the hose to the intake side of the high pressure fuel pump with the container end elevated above the pump it should start if my theory is correct, before cranking give it a squirt of easy start just to get it going so the pump sucks fuel. My thinking was that it’s maybe the DPF that’s blocked stopping the engine from starting so it doesn’t damage it but I just feel there is too many random faults for that to be the issue. I will try the fuel pump tomorrow and see how I get on. It’s annoying because I’ve removed the codes so many times and these just keep reappearing. Having said that, I now fear for your wallet by following your guesswork - such as ‘it’s maybe the DPF’. I can only repeat, that I would get this transported to a local diesel specialist, and my (in caps) guess would be that locating the actual fault won’t end up costing you anything like what you have already spent to date. You only need compression and fuel to start a diesel. Can you undo a union on one of the injectors and crank to see if diesel leaks out. Should be a noticeable trickle from each? Can you try a starting fluid such as Bradex Easy Start to see if it fires up for a second? When cranking, can you feel pulses of gas from the exhaust? What about the throttle that closes when you turn of the engine in the air intake, roughly behind the left headlight, made of aluminium - can you visually inspect the flap? When I had a DPF blocked in 2010, a specialist removed it from the ECU but hollowed out the pre-cat only by mistake, so the DPF became totally blocked but would still start easily, just no power once exhaust pressure built up. You only need compression and fuel to start a diesel. Can you undo a union on one of the injectors and crank to see if diesel leaks out. Should be a noticeable trickle from each? Can you try a starting fluid such as Bradex Easy Start to see if it fires up for a second? When cranking, can you feel pulses of gas from the exhaust? What about the throttle that closes when you turn of the engine in the air intake, roughly behind the left headlight, made of aluminium - can you visually inspect the flap? It’s had a new throttle body fitted and I tried easy start but doesn’t change it. I suspect when you loosen an injector pipe and crank that you’ll get a diesel but might seem a little bubbly making you think it’s drawing air in and lead you into an expensive world of changing components on the fuel system. I would look for a local independent mobile auto electrician to come and test the ecu etc. Should only cost a callout and be less than £100 and might save a lot of chasing. Alternatively you can send the ecu away to be checked/repaired 🤔 there used to be a company on the internet ecutesting.com that charged about £250 to repair/exchange them but if no fault was found then they refunded and sent back but you have to pay about £20 postage. I’ve had a similar fault like this before and it got very expensive to chase and sort. ( it was the ecu in the end but I only found this out after about 2k into it 🤦🏻♂️). Thanks, I think I managed to find the old post and contacted the ECU place that you mentioned (cartech) they want nearly £700 for an ECU replacement and didn’t even respond when I messaged them. Even tried ringing and got no answer. I was only 15mins from the place yesterday and hoped to drop mine off and see if they could test it but they wouldn’t answer the phone so just came home Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
