A3 8p Air bag light on . Any common faults to check?

Featured Replies

Hello there.

I have an a3 2009. 1.9tdi with 120k on it. Yesterday the air bag light came on and stayed when I started up.  Just wondered if there are any common faults or things I can try ?

Many thanks

Under-seat connections can be an issue due to dust etc. Worth getting some contact cleaner and giving them a good spray, but DO NOT disconnect OR wiggle them too much, or you run the risk of the air bags going off.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

I tried a scanner tool and it came up with this.  Does it narrow it down in anyone's mind ??

I had this problem in 2007 A3 and it was a broken wire in offside front door loom. Auto electician sorted it in 30 minutes. Good luck.

Broken wires in the driver's door, usually in the rubber bellows between door and frame, are a common problem, so Gordon's suggestion is worth pursueing. It most often affects the door locks and windows.

Checked the door sensor. They looked ok as far as that goes. Decided to check the wiring in the rubber booty between the door and chassis...........

Oh dear ..Wheres my soldering iron.

Far short of getting a new door loom I suppose cut  solder and extend where needed.

Just thought I'd put a few pictures up incase anyone else has this.

Probably explains why the heated mirror stopped working too. Airbag light gone out now (But had to reset with obd2 scanner)
