Was driving home last night when my 3.0 tdi started making a tapping sound front the front end while I was in motion.

Only happens when im in gear and off power and decreases tapping the slower I go.

tried to recreate while stationary and no luck didn’t happen on acceleration thou

anybody have any ideas of what it is and where to possibly look 

 

any advice is welcome

Do you think the noise is associated with the actual engine, or perhaps transmission, or even suspension/ bodywork/ undertrays? 
Any chance you can clearly record this?

I don't know if I am stating the most obvious but could it be something in the tyre, like a stone or a nail?

I think you are probably right Mike, but we'll never know as Gareth has not returned to the forum since 16th December.
