Fault after timing belt change

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me.

I've just had the timing belt and water pump changed on my a5 2.0 tdi quattro. The first time I went for a drive it showed a start stop fault followed by a Drive system fault.

It seems to be driving and idling well.

The mechanic drove it to my home after the work was completed and didn't mentions any faults.

Hello Martin,

Welcome and thanks for joining.
Can we take it you are addressing the issue with the garage that fitted the belt assembly for you?
How long did the garage have the car while doing the belt?
I ask since the stop/start problem maybe associated with a slightly below par battery - aggravated by remaining uncharged for a while.
Is the battery on this 7 year old car it’s original one?
If so, it would be worthwhile having its efficiency checked - Halfords stores will do that. It would be to your advantage to come back to us if found to be substandard, before committing to buy a new one.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth

The mechanic only had it for a day.

He came out to it today and seems to be sorted now. He reckons the crankshaft position sensor was the cause.

Thanks for the reply!

Martin
