A5 3.0 Quattro Dual Mass Flywheel

Featured Replies

Hi all, just looking for some opinions on here.

Bought an A5 2014 3ltr Quattro with 56k 4 months ago.

Took it in for service and they've diagnosed a fault with the DMF, long story short looking at a bill of around £4k apparently for the DMF, Clutch, ancillary and labour.

Taken legal advice on this so know where I stand there, but does anyone know if this is a fair wear and tear item?  Seems rather low mileage for a DMF to go, unless it's been abused? But I don't know Audi too well.

Wanted an Audi for years, should have stopped with Range Rovers lol

Thanks all.

I would expect the DMF to last rather longer than that in careful hands; however if the previous owner enjoyed traffic light grand prix then it is not surprising the DMF springs have died. I think you would be lucky to successfully claim wear and tear.

You might have a claim against the vendor if he was a dealer, but then you would know about that aspect already having taken legal advice.

Hello Paul,

Welcome, thanks for joining, and sorry to read of your issue.
To attempt to answer/ explain some the points you have raised.
Is a clutch assembly classed as a (fair) wear and tear item? Yes.
Is it unreasonable that a (10 year old) 56K car should suffer clutch wear? - I would say debatable, since this car has averaged only 5.6K/a, suggesting that it has been used on short journeys where the clutch is likely to have been used far more than say an example which has covered twice that mileage on much longer runs - hence it will have worn more despite its low mileage.
I’m in the same camp as Cliff, and unfortunately I feel you might have quite a legal task on your hands to make a claim for this, but……

‘Took it in for a service…’ Where Paul? Main dealer, independent, local garage?
Have you sort a second opinion - say at an independent Audi specialist? If not, that would be my first port of call.
Are you hearing, or have you heard any noise from this flywheel?
Perhaps you could come back to us Paul.

Kind regards,

Gareth.
