Bulb out icon on but no bulbs out. No heating.

Featured Replies

Sooooo…. This is a bit of a long one so bear with me please!

I had my Audi (A3 TDI, 90,000 miles) regassed last summer (2023], and I noticed that afterwards I had no hot air from the heating. I called the guy back out and he did a diagnostics test - nothing showed.

I put the car in to the garage to find out why. They ended up having it for 5 days and did the work shown in the attached invoice. When I picked it up they said that it would blow some warm air if you didn’t have it on too high (that worked for about a week), but that it probably would need a new heating matrix.

As I left the garage I noticed that there was a bulb blown icon on the dashboard. As it was late I flagged it up to them and booked it in for a couple of days time to see what the problem was. On that visit they did 2 diagnostic tests and found nothing, saying that it might be a bulb about to blow or corroded!

It went back in again 4 weeks ago. They had it for 24 hours, apparently checked and changed multiple bulbs and diagnostics again. No joy. They have now said they will get an electrical specialist out so I am waiting for that. I need to sell it as have now bought another car (couldn’t face another freezing winter!). I have asked them to sort the issue out at no extra cost, seeing as it was fine when it went in. Does anyone have any experience with this bulb issue happening? It’s driving me mad! It’s such a lovely car, I’ve had no problems in the 7 years I have had it until the regas

Update: Today we disconnected the inlet and outlet pipes and ran the garden hose through them. I now have warm (not hot) air on the passenger side but not on the drivers side 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Advice on either topic really appreciated!

The reduced heating is consistent with a blocked heater matrix. The garage report confirmed no flow, and though the garage tried to flush it, there has been little success. I'd say you need a new heater matrix.

I have an ongoing “issue” with bulb warning. If I notch the light switch from off to headlights on in one sweep the bulb warning will show up.
if I switch incrementally then the warning light does not illuminate. Note, no bulbs are out even when the warning is illuminated. No real issue for me as long as I remember to switch incrementally.
