Anybody have an issues with their timing belts on Audi A3 8V 150 TDI, mine was replaced before i bought the car, 2021, have been told they're good for 6 years, i can hear a noise sounds like it's coming from the Timing belt cover area 10 mins after it's been running, have just read that they do seize, and the car is sluggish on acceleration, which mine is.

Think you need to get this into a garage as soon as you can.

Tony.

If the water pump was not replaced at the same time as the belt as it should have been, that could be the source of the noise. As Steve said, get the car to a garage ASAP, because a belt failure is usually sudden and the consequent engine damage can be catastrophic.

Opinions on belt duration, even from Audi, have changed over the years. I would stick with the older 70000 miles recommendation for peace of mind. It's an expensive job at £700 but a lot cheaper than a new engine.

Thanks for the update Tony. Note that the job is not trivial so it would be worth renewing the water pump at the same time while the engine is apart. The pump life is similar to the belt and requires the same effort for access, hence the recommendation to do both at once.

We have noted before problems with forum access when done through Google. I don't know the details or whether a solution was found.
