A4 8.5 Clunky Noise Suspension

Featured Replies

Hey guys

I have an A4 8.5 2013 SE Technik which has an odd noise for what appears to be coming from the drivers side front.

When I accelerate in lower gears such as 1st gear from standstill, there is a clunk sound. When pulling out of junctions and turning left or right the noise also occurs.

When driving the car the noise can sound like 1 clunk or 2 or 3 at the same time?

Anyone recognise this sound? The drivers side lower forward arm and drop link has already been replaced.

You need to get a pry-bar on the suspension. Arms are usually good for around 80k miles. Upper arms possibly. An inspection of the engine and transmission mount would be worthwhile as suggested. If you are changing arms, Meyle HD or Lemforder only.

Hi Guys

I took the car back to the mechanic who replaced the drivers side lower rearward arm and now all the noise is gone on the drivers side. Basically, that's both lower arms and drop link replaced on Drivers side.

Looks like I need to do the same on the passenger side as I can now hear a creaking noise lol It only occurs at low speed during braking, as opposed to the drivers side which was during accelerating at low speed.

I assume I need to replace the front lower rearward control arm too on the passenger side but has anyone ever experienced creaking noise during braking where the car pitches forward at low speed? Which arm would receive the most force during low speed braking? Just worried if I ask the mechanic to replace the arm and it doesn't fix it. Could it be the upper arms?

Cheers

Hi

Did you resolve the creak issue ?
I’ve changed both side lower arms as that was giving clunk knocking when braking sharply Low speed was more obvious

this was a year ago all good , now with radio off, park speed only right hand part lock I am getting a creak creak 2/3 when gently on the brakes

on inspection on mates ramp no wear found but the only arms not replaced are RH both top arms

I will have to change them and try

did this sort your issue ?
thanks Paul
