Audi A5 B8.5 2.0 TDI Dipstick

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’m trying to source a permanent engine oil dipstick for my Audi A5 B8.5 2.0 TDI Diesel (CGL engine, 177 hp, 2011-2017). The car originally doesn’t come with a dipstick, only an electronic oil level sensor.

I’ve found dipsticks with OEM numbers 06J115611E/F but they seem to fit only 2.0T petrol or different engines. The part number 03L115611H, often mentioned, appears not to exist or is gearbox-related.

Can anyone confirm the correct OEM dipstick part number for the 2.0 TDI CGL engine? Also, recommendations on where to buy a genuine or quality aftermarket dipstick would be much appreciated!

Before anyone suggests i've purchased a Laser 4807 Oil Gauge/Dipstick for now, but i'd like a permanent engine oil dipstick.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm looking also, I'm thinking to get one from ebay and make marks on the dipstick myself going in what the display says.

I know this is not what your looking for but would solve the problem of having to wait and mess in the settings. Also if the sensor ever goes faulty then at least you know the correct level. My Audi dealer has told me they don't exist so maybe you will have to make do with an after market one.

Hi

you can buy an adjustable dipstick from e bay, I have one myself.it

does a number of engines. mine is a FRANKLIN  PT NO AT31111.  there

are also others, if you go on eBay, and type in (genuine audi engine oil adjustable

dipstick)‚ you will see it, (it has a small chain attached)  hope this helps

Brian.

Thanks Brian,

I will check that one out.

Hey so i followed this video to get my oil level reading working again and then slowly added oil at a time until i got between min and max reading:

This is a great tool aswell which i can vouch for: Laser 4807 Oil Gauge/Dipstick

Sadly there doesnt seem to be a permanent dipstick solution which i think is an oversight and just poor from Audi

Hi,

can't beat an old fashioned dipstick couldn't be bothered with all that messing about.

Brian.

How very true...... but I wounder what would happen if you got the wrong length dipstick and you checked and it showed it was low on oil .... when maybe your not and you over fill ..... I wonder if that would be good for your engine.

Still I agree .... poor from audi

A5Kev.

On my earlier post, I gave the make and part no of the dipstick which I have, I bought

it a few years ago, so that I could get an accurate oil reading on my A4 Allroad 2ltr tdi

the dipstick comes with instructions on how to adjust it depending on which engine

you have. (by the way, out of curiosity, I once called into my local Audi Dealer, and

asked them if they would check the engine oil level, the mechanic brought out the

identical dipstick from the workshop as I had) enough said.

Brian.

Did they really ... lol

Mine just said it was an obsolete part and couldbt help me ... bless them.

I'm all sorted now but thanks again everyone for the comments and help 👍

That could be useful tip. Do you know if the level sensor need to be calibrated, or does it assume the existing level is correct and adapt itself to suit?

If you are talking about the audi mmi internal oil reader then its just as simple as warming the car up, aim for oil temperature of 60 degress or higher, and then just following the steps in the video. Make sure the car is on level ground.

If you were talking about calibrating the Laser 4807 Oil Dipstick it has a measurement where you can tighten the knob which acts as the dipstick limiter. For my car i used 46mm but that may vary from engine to engine.
a wrong length dipstick will just give an incorrect reading. I dont' think it will cause any issues but i'm not an expert.

Hi

Yes,  the 46mm reading on your Laser dipstick is

correct for the 2ltr idi engine.

That was the one I was asking about. From your description above it is evident there is no laser involved. It's just a gimmicky name for a stick with an adjustable stop. It sounds an ideal solution, though the name is a little deceptive.

That's the same one I use on my 3.0TDi - https://www.lasertools.co.uk/Product/4807/Oil-Gauge-Dipstick-for-Audi equivalent to the OEM T40178 one.
