Audi S3 8V saloon full suspension replacement (Magride)

Hi all, 

I just wanted to share my experience of replacing the suspension on a 2015 audi s3 8V saloon.

 

Parts replaced:

*Magride Struts with mounts (Chinese)

*Springs (Chinese)

*Control arms complete (Febi bilstein)

*Drop links (Moog front & TRW rear)

*Inner tie rods (Febi bilstein)

*Stabiliser links (Moog)

*Upper Wishbones (MS Germany)

*Trailing arms (Moog)

 

Total cost including labour was just under £2000

So this car comes with magride suspension and it was very hard to find anyone who has replaced the struts with the Chinese magride. So I decided to experience this and share with anyone interested. 

 

I straight away noticed a massive difference in clearance at the front and back end after the work was done. However the car is much smoother and less bouncy as compared to worn OEM suspension. Handling is obviously not as sharp due to height differences.

I have not had any error codes or malfunctions from magride side of things and still putting mileage on.

I will give more feedback after another 1000 miles.

You mention ‘ ..including labour’ but just wondering from the photos, if you did have some DIY involvement in the job-? 
Also, front and back?

Hi Magnet,

Yes I did do some bits as DIY but mainly the work was done by a friend who owns a small workshop so as to keep labour costs down. The front was done as well but I didn't get too many photos. I will post some that I have. I also replaced the front and rear discs and pads as everything was opened up anyway.

 

Today I have applied rust converter in some areas on subframe and will get lanogaurd and seal the underside to keep things clean and tidy for the future. 

 

If I do start getting issues with the struts then I will go with full coilovers and cancellation kit. But for now I'm happy just a knocking front left drive shaft needs replacing then I have literally broken the bank 🤑

I only purchased the car 3 months ago but I like doing up my cars from bottom to top then I can be sure of reliability.

 

I have done the same to a 2009 VW Passat 2.0 tdi and I always get people wanting to buy it.

 

Let's hope all this work will make it worth keeping the car for the next few years without any major issues at least not on the suspension side.
