interior light TT mk 1

Featured Replies

The interior lights have  just stopped coming on when the doors open , been working fine until today.

The lights work fine fine when operated manually  by the switches either side of the rocker switch.

The rocker switch appears to do nothing.

Where do I start ?

From google it seems the consul holding the switches comes out to gain access to the switches but its not clear best way of getting  it free .

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Hello Jeffrey,

Bit confused by ‘ lights work fine when operated manually…..rocker switch ( which one?) appears to do nothing’.
I believe the switching of interior lights when the door/s are opened works from the door locks. Cabling within the flexible harness section twixt A post and door’s OK?

Regards,

Gareth.

I am referring to the bank of switches above  the rear view mirror.Rocker switch in the middle push switch on either side to operate the reading lights.

The push switches operate the reading lights as they should.

However ,the lights do not come on when the doors are opened.

The rocker switch whether it is in the 1 ,O,middle position does not appear to do anything.

I doubt both door switches would give out at the same time so suspect the rocker switch.

I think I need to get the switch bank out and get to the rocker switch wiring .

Just wondering if anyone has done this.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the door switch on one side operates a bit like a master switch in that if it fails neither side will work, but if the other one fails only that side is effected. If I can find it again I'll post a link as I can't remember which side is "the boss". It won't be tonight though mate, sorry, starting work at 2am so I'll be calling it a night soon.

So Dave thinks it maybe a door switch too.

Showing all the signs, and the door harness as you said.

It's part of the door actuator, not a switch in the door shuts.

Well, how about this ?Didn't get a chance this morning to delve into the light issue.

This afternoon took the car out as the boss wanted a few things from Waitrose . Put the top down, back from Waitrose looked like rain so put the car away in garage ,top still down.Open the door the interior light comes on .

Close the door light goes off in about 20 seconds as it should.Tried it a few more times and seems to be working fine.

The idiosyncrasies  of running a 20 year old car ??????
