Emergency Brake Fault Warning

Featured Replies

suddenly I’ve come across a problem with my audi a3 Quattro 2.0tdi 2008 facelift, I’ve got an emergency brake fault which flashes in the middle of my screen and brings up all the lights such as ESP/P.STEERING/ENGINE MANAGEMENT/FLASHING HANDBRAKE this comes on every single time I turn the car on, but it sometimes goes and all I get is an esp fault and then when I go to drive the car it comes on again, the speed isn’t been registered as the speedo is stuck at zero when the fault occurs same as the fuel gauge seems to move up and down

Ive had the car looked at and the abs sensors are communicating with the car, but there’s something that’s making my car lose communication with the abs module, I’ve read up and I’m about to tackle my back brakes and discs and clean both my rear wheel speed sensors hoping that that can get rid of my fault

any help will be appreciated as I’m stuck!

That could be a faulty instrument cluster, which is a well known fault in Audis of that era. It can be repaired a by a few companies for less than £300, providing you take the cluster out and post it to them. Alternatively Audi will charge many times that cost for a new cluster.

apparently my instrument cluster is fine, as the car seems to work normally and then bam when it has this problem it loses communication!

so I rang a few a garages explaining my issue they said since I’ve had my sump-frame off and transfer box as the guy who did work on my car had to take all this off they said he’s disturbed the steering rack or angle sensor/but my battery was still on when this was happening as my phone connected to my car and my car was there for 3 days so I’m guessing they’ve done work on the car with it connected and then when I said something they’ve realised and took it off and carried on with the work

they dropped the sump/transfer box/moved my diff out the way and pushed my engine forward and backwards to try get this pipe out since having it done I’ve had nothing but problems, it goes off and all I get is ESP/Fault in the middle and just traction and a steering wheel and then 10-15min maybe 5min later the emergency brake fault comes on and the car still drives the same just really weird as the speedo doesn’t register and the fuel gauge does a lap up the dash and lap back down soon as you touch the accelerator so am stuck and I also went and got the alignment done and still got the same problem so yeah help would be nice ahahah

A pity you did not mention all the other work in your first message, though I am still not clear exactly what has been done and what your phone has to do with it. I suggest you get the car scanned on a decent code reader.

basically saying the battery was connected throughout the work which was done I meant to say!

I’ve had a full scan done multiple times the abs is communicating with the module but when I get the emergency brake fault light and everything on the dash it loses communication/ also have the steering light on same as traction that’s when the cars working normally just trying to figure out what’s causing the brake fluid light to come on and flash repeatedly! guessing I could have an airlock or need a brake fluid change maybe I’m not too sure

Hi Tyler, I've only just seen this thread and I hate to ask what may be an obvious question but have you checked your battery? Mine starting throwing warning lights at me (and always starting with the parking brake light) before it became obvious I needed a new battery, after replacing it everything was good again.

I’ve had the battery so called checked, with a voltmeter/multimeter he said the battery’s running fine and the alternators charging the battery he said it was fine but could that be a problem even if it’s okay?

Hello Tyler,

Checking batteries with a multimeter is a meaningless test.
You need to get the battery efficiency check on professional equipment which test other parameters apart from static voltage.

Halfords stores will normally do that. If substandard, then it would be advantageous to let us know rather than buying a battery at that stage.
Please let us know how you get on.
Regards,

Gareth

So that is the alternator test.

Have I missed the battery efficiency test?
Who carried out the test and when - confused by the

07 -02 - 2000!?
