Featured Replies

Just to confirm - this is the oil level light, and not the oil pressure light-?

If level light, then yes, it likely to be the sensor or its connector.

Please let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Gareth.

Am I ok to drive it till my service due in December .. I checked oil and its on max

I had my oil change done last december i do it once a year i do around 3 thousand miles a year so i thought if its ok to get sensor done when i get oil change as it will need draining to put sensor in

Beany.

Have you established whether the light is for oil level or oil pressure as Gareth asked? It it refers to pressure it is likely a faulty sensor and you drive at at your own risk. It it refers to oil level the car should not be moved another inch. In fact the engine should not even be fired up until you have made certain there is actually some oil in the sump.

To my mind it would be foolish to use the car until you have some certainty about its lubrication.

It's the oil level light as it has a yellow oil sign and it says min on it but I have check oil level and it is at max on dipstick

Thanks for your help

Sorry to drag this out Beany, but I think we all have your best interests in mind here.
What interests me is that this 19 year old car understandably has a dipstick, but by your interpretation ( and you are possibly right) also has an oil level sensor-?
Might well be correct in those days of engineers rather than accountants designing vehicles.
However, I think in your own interest, it would be well worth consulting your handbook for the definitive answer here.
Perhaps you can let us know how you get on so we can  tie this thread up.

Regards,

Gareth.

Car is an audi a4 b7 2.0 tdi sline 140 2006

Checked the owners manual it says if yellow oil light comes on check engine oil level and top it up but my oil is at max so im guessing its a sensor fault that sits at bottom of oil sump
