Glow Plug Warning & Codes

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just picked up a 2014 Allroad and it’s thrown the glow plug warning light.
I’ve had the RAC come out and scan it for codes and had the below come up.
Are they all likely to be linked to the soot content in the DPF or am I looking at multiple issues?

thanks!

Hi sorry multiple issues, the first code will need actual soot and ash loading figures to assess if the DPF  is salvageable, the second code is probably the lift pump in the fuel tank, the left engine mount is in need of replacement, and then the dreaded P200 which is the low pressure EGR cooler which feeds gas from the main EGR back in to the system and clogs with gunge and Adblue crystals, the high beam assist you can live without and the rear wiper motor needs to be viewed working to see if any water actually comes out, if not the pipe that feeds the water has probably come off the motor or its all blocked with gunge. My guess is the vehicle has done some miles.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your response!
yeah it pretty high mileage.
Thought it may be too good to be true that they would be all related.
I’ll go back to the dealer I bought the car from to see how they want to deal with it, either deal with the repairs or take the car back off me.
Thanks

Hi unfortunately these cars are high maintenance I found that out during my ownership, three EGR coolers three clutches, back in the good old days if you bought a pre Adblue model you were probably on to a good bargain, I can see the attraction of floating about in a solid piece of German engineering but I dont think anyone factors in repair costs or research known problems, there are a lot of owners on here that have had the same problems with newer/lower milage cars so dont think your problems are exclusive, I do a lot of plug ins for a local garage I use if they are offered the chance to buy an old high milage VAG vehicle, did a retired 2017 Skoda Octavia cab 270k it had a few faults but considering what they paid for it £500 after a DSG service and a DPF clean it made a 1st class pool car, my advice would be when buying any car to have it scanned first, if they decline WALK AWAY! if they accept you will at least know what problems are looming and make an educated decision .

That's good advice Steve, and not something that would have occurred to me. Dealers in worn out cars may not like it, but ultimately it would benefit both buyers and vendors by building mutual trust.

That’s a good shout getting a car scanned before you buy, hadn’t thought of that, but it’s been a while since a bought a car from an independent. Thankfully they are being decent and are going to collect the car and sort all the issues out. I’ll just need t make sure I scan it when it comes back.
this one’s pre adblue as I’ve seen too many issues with that with friends/colleagues.
