2025 A3 brake pedal feel

Featured Replies

I have just bought a 2025 A3 30TFSI, auto.

I should be excited and polishing it however the brakes are driving me mad, They are not smooth and progressive, I would describe them as "slip and snatch". Sometimes its a firm feel to the pedal other times its soft and not slowing the car down quick enough. And sometimes I feel them snatch on and off as I slow down.

I bought the car from a far distant Audi dealership and during the very short and hurried test drive I said a couple of times that I thought the brakes were weird but the salesman assured me they were okay. Unfortunately, I trusted him and assumed I was imagining the problem, how could there be a problem in a 6 month old, low mileage Audi ? Silly me, I bought it anyway.
A Master Technician at a local Audi dealer agreed that there is a problem and the dealer I bought from has agreed to take it away and check it.

I have formally rejected the car but given the dealer the opportunity to rectify the problem because I can't drive it if I can't be confident of what is going to happen when I press the brake pedal.

Is anyone else having issues with their brake pedal or is it just my particular car, or maybe its just me ?

A wise decision in case repair is expensive.

Cliff, It is under warranty until  Feb 2028. I rejected it in case they tell me its normal behaviour for the car.

Hi they will tell you its normal as I believe its something to do with the emergency brake assist software, I am like you I love that feeling when you press the pedal and its there, my Passat has a similar system but it only starts braking for you when it senses something solid about three feet from either front or rear bumper, other than that it behaves like a normal braking system, the stopping is commensurate with pedal pressure.

My wife felt as if the car was running away when she pressed the brake going down a hill, has anyone else had the same feeling ?

  • 5 months later...

Think we are on the same page.

I agree - brakes are bad. On or off. Sold my A3 with 201 miles, and lost a shed load of money, but would have lost a lot more if I kept it, as I wouldn't have driven it.

Engine `flares' - a known problem where the DSG gearbox searches for the right ratio, and gets it wrong. Another known problem.

Traction control does not kick in for a second or so, so spins up the driving wheels - another known problem!

Even changed the tyres at £400 plus (Originally Nexens, a mid priced tyre), to a premium tyre - no better.

Frankly extremely disappointed, but we live and learn.

Unfortunately an expensive lesson, but will avoid Audi in future.

Interested in this thread for future reference. Do people think this is a post 2023 hybrid problem/dsg software issue or more common on across the a3 range? Noticed comments about brake squeal/grinding on other threads. Not had any brake problems with mine so far.

I think the biggest surprise for me was how few similar opinons I could find on the internet. One motoring journalsit did raise the issue with Audi but they didn't acknowledge it to be a problem.

I have found the problem on two different 30 TFSI's but it was a lot less noticeable on a 35 TFSI.
