2008 3.0TDI brake pads warning light

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I wonder whether anyone can offer some intel/know how on why my 2008 3.0TDI has its brake pad warning light lit - when the wear warning wiring to the NSF front brake pads is broken near the caliper and the brake pad wiring on the NSF missing entirely...?

The rear brake pads and discs I've just had replaced professionally due to the complexity of the electronic handbrake - but I don't believe there is any brake pad wear warning facility at the rear brakes -unless somebody knows differently?

Returning to the front brakes - both discs are lipped enough to plan changing them shortly - the need pads will come with wear warning wires - but I can't see where they would connect to. Does anyone have a parts breakdown picture of the front brakes/suspension - that would show where the brake pad warning wiring connects please?

Any help would be gratefully received.

With best regards

The pad wiring will join the same loom as the ABS speed sensor I'd have thought. The pad sensor is straight-forward wiring and usually disappears behind the wheel arch liner or into the main chassis near the front subframe.. Once there's a break continuity it will illuminate.

Scanning the car on VCDS will provide a little information. I can't remember if there's a pad warning on rear discs - possibly.

as far as I can remember, going back a few years on various

Audi's I have owned, there has always been a low brake pad warning sensor

fitted to the inner brake pad on the o/s/r.

Thanks fellas.

You're right Gareth, I've only had the car for 3 weeks and still learning about it - also it's my first Audi! I'm used to working on marques like Alfa Romeo, Subaru, Saab and the Peugeot 406 Coupe. I think I need to spend more time on the A5 to familiarise myself with it.

I have access to a well equipped workshop and will be changing the transmission fluid next week. Whilst the A5 is on the lift I'll have a longer look for where the brake pad wear warning wiring would plug in. And also at Dalswinton's suggestion check for brake pad wiring at the rear

Hi I think you will find that there is only one brake wear indicator on the front and the back repair cables are readily available on line, my Alfa Mito has two wear indicators on the front and back but only uses one station on each axle. Please note the loom cables up to the ECU are around £200 each which is what makes the repair plugs such a wonderful proposition at around a tenner.

Steve.
