Q5 “Judder”

Featured Replies

Hello everybody, I’d be grateful of a little feedback to see if anyone has this fault and what was the fix.

i have a 2022 Q5 40 TDi (46k miles). When I got the car with 36k on it a year ago I noticed a judder when pulling out of a junction, when turning left or right. It only happens when warm.

its been back to the Audi dealer 6 times over the last year for this same fault. Something to do with the 4WD system. They said there is a TPI instruction from Audi if this is identified. This is driving round in circles till the oil is hot. They changed the coupling oil (clutches in there) then as this didn’t work the coupling was changed.

its back in the garage now, it’s been in 5 weeks and they say they are going to change the diff actuator and sensor, however they are going to use used parts when they can find them.

had anyone ever experienced a main audi dealer using used parts ( as advised by Audi in Germany) ?

thanks in advance

Is it out of the 3 years warranty?

Hi, thanks for your question, not when it was first identified. It also came with a 2 year warranty when I bought it, so plenty of warranty time. I just think it’s strange that they are now waiting for a donor vehicle for the parts.

Never heard of main dealers using secondhand parts.

Have you actually seen that dictate in writing, and if not, have you requested written copy, or going to request it?

Regards,

Gareth.

Hi, a good question. No, but I will now. Thanks for getting back to me.

I have now requested the information on the used parts from Audi.

The terms and conditions of your warranty should stipulate if used or refurbished parts will be used for repairs. There is nothing inherently wrong with using these parts for repairs as long as they are of sufficient quality

Thanks Bob, that’s why I suggested the OP seeks copy of what the main dealer’s intentions are.

We need the OP to clarify if this is a genuine Audi backed warranty or an ‘aftermarket’ one.
Personal opinion :- I wouldn’t be too impressed if my 3 year old vehicle was repaired with secondhand parts by a main dealer.

Did you do a search for Judder? I posted about this a while ago.

I can't understand why they would have your car off the road waiting for used parts unless it's not an Audi warranty and there is a limit to the costs they will pay out. Everything done so far isn't cheap.

H thanks for the reply. It’s an Audi warranty. I have a little more information now and the used parts are for the diagnostic which will apparently would be replaced if it was found to be the fault.

I don't understand the logic of fitting secondhand parts of unknown condition as a way of diagnosing what is wrong with your car. If the car still judders with the replaced part does that tell them they have replaced the wrong part or that the replacement itself is worn out?

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes I agree I think it’s all a bit strange.

It defies logic.
