S4 Airbag in red writing on dash

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, new to this forum so appreciate any help I can get, im looking at buying a 2004 S4 4.2 quattro, when I test drove it I noticed on the top left of the dashboard 'AIRBAG' In red letters, forgive me for maybe asking a dumb question, but is this an airbag warning light? Or just a message to say the passenger airbag is on, as traditionally I would expect an airbag warning light to be a symbol of someone sitting in the seat with a belt on and bag in front of them. The MOT history is clear with no advisories in the 3 years the current owner has had it.

Thanks in advance

Jason

Airbag warning issues are usually caused by loose wires under the passenger seat. It'll need a diagnostic check to confirm. There should be a separate yellow light to warn you if passenger airbag is off. This is usually deactivated by using the key in the key slot inside the glovebox.

Hi Steve,

appreciate your input on this issue, the car im looking at is lovely other than a power steering fluid leak even though it's had a new pump so can only assume it's a hose leaking and red airbag warning light but both are fixable.

That's the other thing I was worried about, but it's only leaking on the passenger side right underneath the reservoir, drivers side is bone dry and I'd assume the steering rack and pinion was on driver side in line with the steering column
