Windows and central locking

Featured Replies

Hello, this is my first post. I have a 2008 a4 2.0t convertible. It runs and drives okay. The windows and central locking don't work. I also can't get into the boot. My mechanic thought he had sorted it by replacing the ECU. I'm not mechanically minded so, please could someone explain to me like I'm a child? Thank you. I'm not taking it to the mechanic just yet until I have some idea what the issue is. I absolutely love the car, it's my most favourite car I've ever owned. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Lock and window faults are commonly caused by one or more damaged wires in the rubber bellows between door and frame. The insulation becomes brittle with age and repeated flexing.

Other possibilities include a defective drivers door lock and a weak battery, but start with an examination of the wires mentioned above. Remove all the door cards and pull the wires back until you can see them.

Thank you. The battery is quite new. I think it's the wires somewhere. I'll have a look tomorrow. I'll watch some YouTube videos to see how to take the door cards off. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Question,

is this just with the fob or key in door too?

Reason I ask is want to know is power getting to the door.

I have replaced my window regulator and motor alot in VW/Audi's its a crime!

My ky fob isn't working either. The light flashes on the door. I can lock it with the key and it locks the passenger door as well. I can lock both doors when I'm sat inside and press the lock button.

Rain water got into the car a few months ago, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I suspect it probably does.

If it soaked the pase get footwell it could have damaged the ccm which is under the carpet. A diagnostic check should flag up a fault code if it's not working properly.

This was changed recently.

Could I use a odb plug in thing I've got, to check?

I've just tried my odb adapter and it didn't show anything. I didn't want to try and expose the wires on the door because it looks quite difficult to access.

I will have a go at the weekend. It looks more likely to be corroded wires.

I've got a control unit fot the windows from Ebay.

The driver's door window went down a bit yesterday and stopped working. I disconnected the battery and managed to get the window back up. It then didn't work again. Is this normal if it's the control unit?
