Dashboard warning light identification

Featured Replies

Hi there, I have a 1999 b5 A4 Avant - 184,000miles. Engine and bodywork fine but parts wear out. I have just had a warning light come on which I cannot identify in the handbook, online or local garage (please see attached). No obvious issues with electrics, brakes and car handles normally. Does anyone know what it means? Many thanks, David

Your multifunction display has many dead pixels. The good news - the warning as amber, so it's advisory rather than red, which would suggest it's dangerous.

The kind of "double bracket" effect seems to be used exclusively for brake warning. The centre part could be a bulb, with a load of dead pixels.

I'm going to say it's a dead brake light bulb warning.

Hi there, thanks. I completely forgot to mention in the original post that the brake (and all other) lights work as normal! It's not recurred so no action planned at the moment.

It may well be that you have an intermittent fault on one of your brake lamps - probably worth pulling them out and having a look for damp/corrosion in the socket.
