Ignition startup issue

Featured Replies

Hi guys, i have this issue with my car (Audi A3 1.8 TFSI 2013) where if i turn my key all the way the lights on my dashboard flicker and my car wont turn on until 5 seconds later with sometimes a rough stuff sometimes a smooth. However, if i turn it on half way from start instead of all the way it turns on perfectly healthy. My battery and starter are healthy. The key barrel seems good. I'm thinking its the ignition switch. Any help on this?

Your description certainly sounds like an ignition switch fault, but don't entirely disregard the battery. The cold weather always reveals weaknesses in batteries.

I did consider that however if it was a battery issue wouldnt you think it would struggle to start even if i turn the key half way? Cause even on cold starts if i turn the key half way it turns on perfectly but all the way 100% it struggles to start.

The ability of a battery to crank the engine at normal speed is not proof that it is in good condition. Only a deep discharge test can do that, so it never hurts to carry out a test. See this:

Nevertheless I am inclined to think the ignition switch is at fault here.
