74 8Y diesel remap anyone?

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried to get A3 74 plate diesel remapped?

Have mine booked at end of January at Celtic, but there maybe a possibility that it will be a wasted journey.

Thoughts anyone!

Need to check the sotftware change is reversible. The best tuners adjust to individual cars, not provide a generic map. Not sure what the various tuners do? Figures from celtec look good. Not sure of price? Superchips have a Xmas offer of £250 with similar performance til 31 Dec. I presume you have thought about possibly of a remap the gearbox to get maximum benefit, warranty may be invalidated and need to inform insurer. Good luck.

No specific experience of Celtic Tuning. But I see they actually advertise DPF and EGR deletions, that tells me all I need to know. I've watched my fair share of modifications and if I was going to do it - I'd search our Darkside Developments. They seem very knowledgeable technically speaking. As with all performance upgrades - it's what can the gearbox handle? I know in your case whether 30 TDI (114bhp) or 35 TDI (147bhp) if mated with an S Tronic auto box, then just keep up maintenance regime or that's an expensive fix. You'll already know on 2024 build car you'll automatically invalidate what's left of manufacturer's warranty.

Hi Richard, Darkside are nothing if not truthful I recently put in a request for the possibility of getting the low pressure EGR system deleted on the Passat, but like most of these companies they seem biased towards total removal and the fitting of a DPF removal pipe system and then tell you its only for off road use, where does that leave you with an MOT, no disrespect to those that want to indulge but I have over a life time seen more than my share of mapping go wrong when you suddenly get a fault with no visible code because whatever it is related to has been mapped sideways.

Steve.

I’m sure that’s the case with all tuning companies Steve. I’ve read the small print on Darkside’s website. Let’s face it, diesels are basically the devil incarnate after years of successive governments actively encouraging them. The vehicle manufacturers added everything including the kitchen sink to reduce emissions, but yes, eventually down the line it will catch up with you. I don’t know enough about deletions and any after-effects, but there’s usually a consequence somewhere down the line.

Doesn’t really help much dy it? Seems at the moment, no helpful experience 😢

Apologies for the disappointment, but you have a lot of ‘cons homework’ to be carried out, before thinking about choosing a company to carryout the mapping.

Many significant ones have already been pointed out to you. You also need to consider gaining permission from any third party who may have a financial interest in the vehicle, unless you have already bought it outright.
Please let us know what you intend to do.

Many thanks everyone for your input.

i know that Celtic have a very good reputation, but on balance, i think it may be best to leave well alone for now.

it may also be that it will be fool’s errand as in all probability the ECU is locked 😢

A very wise decision. I would suggest your ‘for now’ would equal until the end of the warranty, and/or the end of any financial interest in the vehicle - whichever comes last.

I can recommend Unicorn Motor Development in Congleton if and when the time comes. I had my A4 40TDI done and so far I am impressed. Custom map on the ECU & TCU.
