Graunching Noise on 3 Point Turn

Featured Replies

I have to reverse around the corner out of my front drive before straightening up and moving forward. Twice now (since September/3500 miles) I’ve had a horrible noise between exiting reverse and engaging drive.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Please book this in to a dealer without delay Tahir.

The ‘without delay’ bit is important, to avoid a claim that you have ignored a fault first known about 3 months ago and may have aggravated the issue.

Please come back to us with the outcome.

Regards,

Gareth.

I will, problem is it’s not happening regularly. Like I say twice in 3 months, will probably be 2 months to get it booked in. Let’s see

Exactly as Cliff says, and procrastination - ‘let’s see’ - may well cost you. I seriously doubt whether anyone else will support your view Tahir, but it’s your car to do with as you wish.
OK, maybe considered a personal question but, does anyone else - PCP, lease etc.- have any financial involvement with this vehicle? If so, I would guess they too would not support your ‘let’s see’.

First time it happened was last Friday 2nd time yesterday. I’ll call Audi Friday but my brother who has an etron gt has had nightmares with our local dealer. I don’t expect a swift diagnosis or resolution

ill keep you posted

So it's not "Twice now (since September" as you first wrote, it's twice since 6 days ago. Fair enough, though it still needs to be reported to Audi as soon as possible.

Well I’ve had it since September and it’s only happened twice…

Thanks for clarifying Tahir. I too interpreted it as Cliff did.
So twice in 6 days then. That makes it even more important to get it seen to, but apologies if necessary, but I’m still getting vibes that ‘ah, I’ll get it sorted if it gets worse’.

Well. Thought I'd narrowed it down a bit, just went to the supermarket first drive of the day, the noise happeened as I was reversing out just below full lock. The only time I've previously heard it has been in the same conditions, cold start in cold weather so I thought I'd try it again when I got home and it was even worse. Thought I'd record it to show Audi and of course I cou;dn't reproduce it.

Will definitely speak to Audi tomorrow

Well it’s booked in, Jan 15th with no courtesy car. No issue this morning so who knows what they’ll find on the day. Will have to try and get a sound recording of it

!Removed! thing hasn't made the noise once since I booked it in...

As predicted they couldn’t find any issues and I haven’t had the noise since. Frustrating because it was definitely there

Happened again yesterday, got a recording this time. Let's see what they say

Rejected the car this morning, Audi have asked to inspect it again.

Dealer emailed earlier, Audi want the car to go back in. Let's see how long they take to get me back in and whether they find a solution. Haven't heard re the rejection yet

Let's hope it's something simple like that. Was surprised to hear the master technician say he'd never seen anything like it
