Random Electrical Faults

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new to this group, first time posting, so hopefully doing this correct!

My A6 has been playing up recently, various faults on the dashboard, namely ground stabilisation fault, steering defective, tyre pressure system fault and brake pad sensor fault.

I've had the battery checked and it seems to be working totally fine and have changed all four ABS sensors, but still have the same issue. Tried to clear all the faults today to see if that would solve the issue, but sadly it returned intermittent faults. Attached is the report i've had done today detailing the fault codes.

Does anyone have a clue what might be going on?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Rickie

Hi first question, how old is the battery and when you say checked by whom and how as the published scan is all classic low voltage, I can tell you from experience these vehicles expect a high degree of voltage stability which you won't get from a failing battery, if its left until it fails completely it causes catastrophic failure of some components, batteries for this model are very reasonable even for the OE batteries say VARTA ,BANNER,YUASA and if coded in correctly should last about four years.

Thanks for coming back to me, Steve.

I've not had the battery changed since I bought it in 2019, but when idle its at 12v and gets upto 14v when running, which i was told was pretty good?

Hello Rickie,

Apologies for jumping in with this thread, but if I was in your situation, I would ignore the fact that you were told the battery was pretty good, and follow the advice you have been given by Stevey Y.

A 6 year old battery is past its use by date, and ‘pretty good’ is not good enough for these vehicles.
We have always maintained on this forum, that the first action with any reported electrical issues, is to first eliminate the battery as the culprit.
I’m not sure how your mechanic checked the battery, but a simple check with a volt meter is somewhat meaningless - it needs to be checked under load.
Having said all that, I’ll dip out, and suggest you follow Stevey Y’s advice before moving on to consider other components being at fault.

Regards,

Gareth.

Hi the battery is failing, most people seem to use the battery readings with the engine running therefore its not the battery but the charging rate from the alternator try checking the battery with the ignition on and not running turn on everything in the car blower heated windows lights and then measure the voltage.PS the battery voltage before starting should be a minimum of 12.5
