R S Q3 NEW MEMBER

Featured Replies

             Hello ,

I am a new member on here and my wife purchased an R S Q3 11 months ago.
It is a 64 plate ,registered January 15 and had covered 55,000 miles when we got it and before she collected the car she had the chrome wrapped black and my brother refurbished all four wheels.
It has served us very well in that time with two north of Scotland runs plus several times over the no limit mountain road on the Isle of Man!
The only repair so far was an a b s sensor which triggered 5 dash lights to warn us which I thought was a little excessive!
The car is now half way through a major service at my friends garage and he gave us the news that he advises a new oil sump due to corrosion.
For the part , the Audi dealer is quoting over £600 for a sump ,plus v a t !!!!
So after labour , gasket etc this is also a £1,000 job which I can’t get my head round !
Can someone guide me to a site or someone on here who has this part for a sensible price please ?
I tried Autodoc but they say “out of stock”.
I am a complete car fanatic ,have been all my life and owned many crazy cars over the years , plus bikes and my main hobby / obsession is performance vehicles .
These have mainly been Subaru Imprezas, R1 powered kit cars , Ninjas and GSXR 750’s etc.
This type of car is not really my thing but it has got under my skin as it is very impressive , comfortable , auto but quick in a straight line !
I have been over 25 years in the trade , (just left last year) and I don’t mind spending money to keep the cars right but that price from the dealer is nonsense in my opinion.
I will upload pics of the car so hopefully someone can assist.
Thanks in advance.
Speedie.

Welcome Craig,

What other factors have you tried apart from Autodoc?

Could be worth trying Parts in Motion and other major factors - if not already tried.

Gareth.

      Hello Gareth,

I just googled the model and part really but couldn’t find alot. Even Ebay mainly kept bringing parts up for newer versions.
I will investigate your suggestions.
Thanks.👍🏻

Every site i look at is out of stock……😩

Except for the main dealer of course who can get them at 4 times the price!!!!!!

I’m having a break before i go mad.

Hi Craig,

I've done a quick search for the part number and found the below. If this is correct, you can get them for just over £100 from a reputable parts supplier, or under £50 from Ali express 🤔

It might be worth verifying the part number with Audi first, but look legit.

Welcome David, and many thanks indeed for your helpful reply.

This now raises another query on Craig :- so if sump is cast aluminium, what is the extent of the corrosion? Some degree of surface ‘white rust’ (as it is generally known) is quite normal, so how severe is this on yours to warrant renewing it? A photo would be handy.

Regards,

Gareth.

       Hello David,

Wow! I will definately be investigating your find later this afternoon.
I really hope this is the find i hope it is!

Thanks very much for trying.👍🏻

Here are the pics of rust before and rubbed down.

Craig.

Your pictures show red rust which means the sump is steel, yet David's information states it should be aluminium alloy. I have no idea which material is correct so be cautious what you buy.

Personally, unless the sump is perforated and wet with oil, I would rub it down, treat with rust remover, and paint it.

       Hello Cliff,

I’m starting to think the same myself.
There is not a spec of oil seeping through.
I’ll do that first and keep an eye on it over the next month.

Thanks for the guidance with this issue.

👍🏻🏎

It did say "typically" lol

I would agree a good rub down, rust remover and re paint for now. I would make a note of your engine number incase you do need one in the future.

Hope it all goes well for ya!
