2016 SQ5 cut out while driving

Featured Replies

hi guys. new to SQ5 ownership here coming from an rs3 8p.

have had the car 1 week and while driving today it cut out, no noises nothing. rolled to hardshoulder, got a computer and in and have this code..... po6e900.

also have me a couple of faults for low voltage on abs, steering and another (will need to check)

ignition comes on but wont crank atall, can hear fuel pump thats all. i have googled this code and tried to find out as much as possible with lots of possible causes but looking to see if someone has had the same issue.

thank you, Craig

Welcome Craig,

First port of call is to get the battery efficiency measured. No good checking with a multimeter - Halfords stores will check it for you.
If it is found to be substandard then your wallet would appreciate it if you didn’t buy a replacement there, but came back to us for further advice on how to go forward.

Please let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Gareth.

p.s. If the vehicle was bought from a dealer then they should pick up the tab, but I would suggest you e-mail them and advise them of your situation.

Also get the alternator output checked once it’s running.

hi gareth thanks for the reply. as regards to battery efficiency i have had jump leads on it and a booster and would still not turn over.

i have the carista app which showed battery at 11.5 which i thought by addding booster would start the car as it would any other. so the not turning over or trying to is suggesting the starter?

it was also bought from my dad's good friend which is a 2 owner vehicle (me being 3rd) with full history.

Allow me to amplify and emphasise Gareth's comments. To put it baldly your battery is clapped out and needs to be replaced immediately. No matter how many booster cables you attach there are internal faults in the battery which are interfering with the stability of the power supply to the delicate electronics of the car, causing the starting and other problems.

Install a new battery and code it to the car. (I am unsure if Carista will do the coding.) See this for the reason:

thank you very much for another reply, appreciate it. i will get a battery tomorrow and let you know how i get on. first time ever with this sort of issue hence asking.

thanks.

Thanks Craig,

11.5 v is useless. Jump leads? Could be a high internal resistance through the existing battery. I would still recommend following my first logical step, but of course it’s quite acceptable to follow any other chosen route.
All we ask is that you let us know the progress you make.
Regards,

Gareth.
Note :-overlapped post.

Thanks Craig,

‘…I will get a battery tomorrow…’.
Please allow me to question that move:-

Where would you intend buying a battery from, and what brands would be your choice to buy, and which not to buy?
Compare …’ I will buy a new pair of trainers tomorrow..’

I guess if you were doing that, you would know exactly what brands would interest you, and which ones wouldn’t.
Batteries on modern vehicles have to cope with high and precise demands, so replacing them isn’t ‘ A battery is a battery, is a battery.
Regards,

Gareth.

i have a mate who can get me a battery at cost price so a would go with what is in it already or the likes of yuasa? or what make would you recommend?

not actually sure whats in it just now i never checked that.

Worth making sure your mate can code the new battery  to the car.
I currently favour Exide.
Never fit cheap batteries!
Fit good brands at competitive prices.

so the inside the boot to the right where fuses are was full of water, have dried it out etc and plugged everything back in but still no joy. guessing a fuse or relay has blown.

auto electrician next a think unless anyone would have a suggestion to check something?

‘…..suggestion to check something?

Yes battery - for the Nth time!
Take the advice, or leave it Craig. The advice is free, as is the battery efficiency testing, but….

Water and electrics - disaster, but unless you have a quaranteed-efficient battery (and 11.5V is rubbish) you will be wasting the auto electrician’s time, and your money.

i put a new battery in it and coded it and wont work. i took the free advice and hasn't helped.... hence why im posting letting you know asking for anything else.

so right now i have wasted money on a battery....

No you haven't! Your battery was undoubtedly dying and in need of replacement, but that's not to say it was the only fault with the car. No reliable electrical diagnosis can happen until there a stable power supply, so the next step is get the car scanned on a decent code reader.
