horrible issue please help

Featured Replies

so I have owned the car for around 7 years, ever since I had it it went into limp mode had it checked was told dpf so had that removed and mapped out and ecu remapped at same time, problem persisted for a while I was only doing short journeys to work and back so didn't bother me too much being in limp mode now and again, the car has been off the road a year now and I've done a lot of other work it needed, gearbox, driveshafts bottom arms etc etc etc, I still have the limp mode issue so I buy a vcds ross tech cable to finally get to the bottom of the issue I keep getting codes P0087 fuel rail/system pressure too low intermittent and P0088 fuel rail/system pressure too high MIL ON, so I thought new fuel rail pressure sensor ordered one from febi installed last week car still throwing same codes but with the addition to a code P0193 fuel pressure sensor short to plus - intermittent

the car doesn't go into limp mode when driving hard mostly when it is at cruising speeds 60-70 or if you rev it a few times from idle it will go into limp mode with coil light flashing , doesn't have starting issues stars on the button idles fine as well

I'm honestly at my whit's end now and I'm not trying to get rid of the car after I've spent so much getting it to where it is now but this issue is stopping my car going through MOT because of the EML I really need some help I've been told injectors from someone but the injectors seemed to be okay on the vcds test, I've also been told its the hpfp and also that it could be fuel pressure regulator, is there any way at all that I could be sure which one it is.

please help I love my car and would love it to run normal again everyone around me is telling me to just scrap or sell it but they don't understand what this car means to me

happy to provide more info from vcds logs etc

Tricky one. When the car first went into limp mode when the DPF was there, then the data would have revealed what was wrong, such as blocked filter, combination of clogged EGR valve, etc. Now that it’s removed or blanked off and remapped you’re in unknown territory as to what’s happening with the engine. Pretty sure on 2014+ cars, no DPF will invalidate insurance, etc.

On 2008 car, then there’s not much physical value, other than to you, given the parts that have been invested. It’s Euro 5 too.

Have you cleared DTC codes, and then driven and rescanned? The EGR valve is probably still there so that would be my first guess and it will be blocked. For injectors, check the flow rates. Suspect you’ll need to record live data to see what they are doing.

With all emission related issues, empty a can of Forte diesel conditioner into the fuel tank when the low fuel light comes on and drive it hard. Replace fuel filter afterwards and top up with fresh diesel.

it had codes for excessive soot and bank 1 efficiency below threshold if i remember correctly that's when i got the dpf done

i did suspect egr valve as i had a code for that too, i did take this off and it was filthy and stuck so i cleaned it all so it was free moving again.

i have not been able to drive the car just yet waiting on a few parts to show up but it does still go back in limp mode after clearing DCT codes re starting the engine it after a few smaller revs it will go back in to limp mode again with the same codes showing, i will check flow rates again under load when i can

i will try this with the deisel conditioner when its back together again
