A7S it is then, the other number is too long to be a VAG code.

Thank you for replying Stevey Y .On the Vin label in the warranty service booklet it reads Model engine output etc engine is 130KW gearbox A7S .However on the line below which is engine and gearbox code it reads CGLC for the engine code then a long space and LLU PWX for the gearbox code.Drew a blank at Audi uk head office and local dealership . It has a metallic clanky sound when engaging gears. ?

Likely S Tronic if 130kw power (which II think was either 177PS or 190PS engine) and 7 speed. Usually service every 38k miles.

Thanks for reply spartacus 68.Had a stroke recently and not as mentally or physically nimble as i was and have to take a run at everything now.Bought car for Wife to run me about with splits into 4 parts mobility scooter in the boot!Still got her A3 with 200k on it with stronic 6speed ,serviced at every 40k and it’s been fine. This Q5 had gearbox service cam belt water pump etc at 38k and regular yearly servicing. It’s done 59k now so you’d hope everything is OK,but it’s lady owner loved the stop start function and did mostly short trips so I wondered if the clacky sound when engaging gear was wear on something. The noise goes as soon as you drive off.

David.

Given what you have told us about your condition i assume you will not be doing any repairs yourself, and hence will be putting the car into a garage, in which case does it really matter what gearbox is fitted? It will be the garage's problem not yours.

Thank you for your response cliffcoggin,in pointing out the obvious and call me old fashioned or anal but l’d still like to know what gearbox is in the car.I did not expect it to be such a difficult question.

Sorry to hear about the stroke. I had a look online, so PWX is 7 speed S Tronic. If last gearbox service was at 38k miles, then not really due again until 76k. That said, you mentioned you'd bought it recently, so flag with garage if need be. A VCDS scan may pick something up. But maybe not. I do think with gearbox issues its right to vigilant. Ignoring clunks, could turn into expensive repair. If outwith new buyer period, and assuming no warranty, then search put a specialist. In Scotland there's Mackie Transmissions (Glasgow), that also deal with Tiptronics.

Thank you for your helpful reply Richard.I tried myself online and drew a blank, but that is probably due to the fact that I am a bit of a technophobe have only recently mastered the retractable biro ! Would still love to know what the prefix LLU is,but they can look at the gearbox when they do an oil change . Could the snicking noise when it’s put in gear be the Dual Mass Flywheel starting to wear as it occasionally shudders on starting and I seem to remember our A3 doing that before we had the DMF replaced.Anybody else had this on a Q5 with stop start? Bought the car privately on condition ,service history and low miles but would have preferred motorway miles.Does it need a Haldex service in the real world at 59k and not the alternative Audi maintenance universe ? Anybody know a decent Audi specialist in the Notts Lincs Leics Area? Thanks again Richard.

I think the best thing to do, is to give the car a health check. If you’ve bought privately, simply to run though any advisories, such as the vibration on start up. It could be gearbox related, but also an engine or gearbox mount.

Not aware of the Q5 being Haldex, I thought it was a torsen Quattro. Post 2017 cars had Quattro Ultra which is basically the same thing, so 2-wheel drive until car detects wheel slip.

Whichever garage you go with, get the car scanned too for any historical DTC faults.
