Morning everyone. Looking for some guidance on my 2014 avant ultra . The activation of the EML and DPF particulate filter light in the last 3 months meant the car was booked in for its first regen in my ownership . ( 2 years ) . The EML has returned with a P2000200 code but the DPF is at 30% . I’m told it’s now EGR cooler . Any advice . ?

Hi this problem is more than well documented on this forum I have myself posted more than a few threads on this problem, your problem is definitely the cooler which is an expensive job if you are not doing it yourself circa £1600 including parts, you have to take the front of the car off to get at it, these things are a very poor design which brings me to the point of what is 30% the soot or the ash, if its the ash thats way to high and can only be cleaned off vehicle as the ash will only be removed the way it went in reverse flushed after cleaning probably about another £360, if you want a good insight into this problem go on YouTube and put in O rileys or Audi DPF problems this guy specialises in DPF cleaning on any make of vehicle and explains what is wrong with the Audi system.

Thanks for the response Steve . The car has 117000 miles and other than the DPF 6 months ago has been a good daily drive up the motorway . I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to the 30% it appeared on the handheld screen of the diagnostic when a friend plugged it in . I have no experience in this area so would need to take it to a garage to resolve but don’t fancy the £1600.

Hi I ran my car to 270k during which it had three coolers with valves, at 32k when I bought it up to 100k it was fine, then about 122k it just fell apart!, clutches suspension joints engine mounts front driveshafts you name it and it failed, why do you think there are so many for sale over a 100k for not to much money, I have a VW Passat for a cab now and yes I had to get the cooler and valve done at about 110k but at £750 including parts I was impressed the car has now done 124k and apart from the usual cam belt and clutch brakes it runs like a high end watch, how can one part of VAG make such reliable engines while the premium branch make crap engines and emission systems, why buy a second hand late Audi when you can buy a VW and still have enough change to go up the pub.

Hi Steve , just spoken to a couple of garages today and they want from 2k - 4K to change the cooler and associated items including inlet manifold . The other option offered is a clean in situ with carbon cleaner which will be substantially less . I’ll have a think .

I completely agree becuse having looked around 100k seems to be the threshold for Audi diesels which is a pity as the car has been fantastic .

Thanks for that Steve. O'Riley certainly provides a good explanation of the problem, and what appears to be a plausible solution. Have you any experience of his software solution?

Hi Cliff yes if you watch the last video about the Audis it explains that there is really no solution long term to this problem except for having the DPF deleted but I have not yet found anyone that has had total success with this, yes its fine at first but then the ECU works out something is missing and bingo the dash light show, these things are ring fenced with sensors whose sole purpose in life is to make sure you can't bypass anything and as Jimmy says even he is not sure of the long term reliability of the process otherwise I am sure he would be doing it.

Hi Steve , so I’ve had the car into the garage and after a flush EGR cleaner overnight and a 50 mile drive by the garage to make sure the car was ok I had it returned minus the cost ( 1100) . It’s taken a week for the EML to return and my anger at the garage

They want 4K for an inlet and new EGR . Do I try another flush if it’s the same code or go away and try another garage …?

Hi the garage isn't called Robin Hood Garage is it, the coolers fail due to a mixture of carbon, Adblue and water vapour from the PCV system you can't flush them out in situ, EGR cleaner only cleans the DPF because of the design it won't clean the cooler and if you try it with the engine running foam cleaning you will probably hydrolock the engine, the only known cure is replacement and that won't be permanent, believe me I did it, you can spend half the retail value of the car without trying and end up with the same problem in the future.

Hi Steve , up until now the garage have been pretty good and even provided courtesy cars so it’s probably my frustration coming through . As you articulate it’s serious money to replace with no guarantee so it’s dilemma time .

No point in flushing again , ask for a quote on replacement I imagine and raid the piggy bank becuse after 18 months I still don’t want to sell .
