Wondered if anyone has had a towbar fitted to their A7 and whether they had any issues? Towbar express is offering a detachable swanneck for £740. Need one for the bike rack.

My neighbour has a swanneck towbar fitted to his A7 and had it removed from his old A7 to fit to his new one, so I suppose it's an outlay but if you replace the car in a few years then at least you can remove the whole assembly and refit to a new one or sell it to get some of your money back.

Colleague had one fitted - non Audi franchise fitted it and cocked up the Air Suspension calibration. Not sure if yours has Air Sus but something to note...

 

Thank you for your replies, Trevor and Tom. Bit worried about non-franchise fitters. I've heard its a bit of a mixed bag.  I just have the standard sports suspension fitted which I don't think is air.

 

As I understand it the Audi A6 / A7 both have good factory prep and it's not the old days of drill and mount and loom cut and shut (scotchlok)  interruptions. Many Audi franchises use contractors to install towbars as they do not have the inhouse experience.

I was told tow bars not compatible with A7’s - first Audi I’ve had that I was cautioned against, dunno why, is the Quattro system?

The A7 is fully prepped for towing. With The correct towbar fitment the car will consider the trailed load and also interact with trailer stability aids. Look at the A7 as an A6 with fancy clothes on and I can see no reason why it should be viewed as unsuitable. 

I myself would have reservations buying a second hand car with a towbar on from any manufacturer due to probable additional wear and tear on drivetrain Although I would consider owning a car with a towbar.
