  1. The voltage is too low. Get the battery tested professionally on deep discharge test equipment.
  2. I knew in general terms how catalytic convertors and oxygen sensors worked, but was not aware of details, and yet I did not feel inclined to delve into technical discussions. Then I came across the following video on a Youtube channel that I subscribe to. It clearly explains the role of cats and O2 sensors in plain language, so I am posting a link here as a reference for everybody on the forum . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aytf6ARcs8s
  3. Exhaust gas temperature sensor there are normally two one before the cat and one after, both sensors have to tally up on reading whilst running if either is knackered it wont initiate a regen because it thinks the exhaust gas is not hot enough, I have had some EGTs that have been registering - 70 which means they are screwed, generally speaking 1psi sounds wrong as a new unit will measure at least 6-7 psi maybe more according to the amount of soot/ash in the DPF, I have always considered it best practise to replace any sensors to do with a DPF replacement as they all wear as a set, it must work as most of the cars I have worked on have never again had DPF issues in the last two years, monitor the EGTs on live data and when the car is raved the temps should climb rapidly, if your engine is Euro 4 you will only have one EGT, happy days. Steve.
  4. There's nothing robust about an RS6. These are performance cars, and even with full service history, things can and will eventually go wrong. As long as you have a hefty contingency budget, then go into it with your eyes and wallet open. Check our YouTube REPerfomance and VAG Technic (both C6 variants) - which are very informative.
  5. I’ve had mine for 4 years now (2015 model), I love it! It was the lower power version but having found a local specialist, he explained that the 3 engine versions were identical apart from the software, so one software update later and it became a different car. Uses less fuel than it used to as well. my previous Allroad has taken me through 2 foot of flood water & a foot of snow, the height adjustable air suspension is just so good . (you can alter the base setting I’m told if you want the lower setting to be really low!). OK, issues, I’ve had no issues with the air suspension, on this model, the pump is inside the car, so little to no damp or debris gets in. Theres a reported issue of a water leak from inside the V of the engine. I had mine done when I had the timing chains changed. (Shouldn’t need them unless the cars been abused or not looked after at some point), I just got unlucky and bought one! So if there was any hint of chain rattle, I’d walk away, it’s expensive! check the air suspension works over its full range. I’m sure someone else on here can explain how to check for air leaks. There are known issues (& fixes) for a leaky sunroof on here in other threads. (It happened to me, I fixed it after watching one of the videos). Adblue, if you don’t drive high miles or it’s left empty for any time, the residue in the pipes can crystallise & eventually block up. Adblue systems were fitted to some early cars before it was a legal requirement sometime in late 2015, so can be disabled in the software without any MoT issues. Those built or registered (not sure which it is) after that date, then it has to be working. The S-Tronic gearbox needs routine oil changes, every 40k miles apparently, both hydraulic & lube oil. Some of the gearboxes have a filter inside, so get that changed at the same time. Other than that I can’t think of anything else. Others may have some more. mines recently developed a little rattle from the rear door, it’s been ‘listened’ to and we both think it’s some wiring come loose, (probably held by a sticky pad that’s lost its stick over 10 years). Good luck, Personally think they’re one of the best cars on the road., but then I’m biased!
  6. One thing - when/if you order ask them for the install instructions as it is quite a lengthy but straight forward process and you will need to follow instructions to the letter in my experience of doing mine - works well though! Best regards david
  7. Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones. p.s. Please avoid using non specific locations such as U.K., England etc. etc.
  8. Hi took some cleaning but the second hand unit seems to be doing its job, if you fish about on eBay there are some quite nice examples on eBay for not too much money if you get one stick a torch down the valve end and at least three of the holes if you look from the other end should be virtually clear, thats a good one, next step is get a cheap mixing bowl that will accommodate the whole valve, block the valve end up and treat it to a couple of bottles of carbon clean poured through the holes at the top you can block the valve end with a rolled up rubber glove, leave it to soak for an hour then pull the glove out and drain, next step spray a can of Mr Muscle down the holes and leave for about four hours using the remainder of the can every hour, then wash it out with hot water I did mine under the tap in the kitchen sink until the water ran clear, the Mrs wasn't impressed but I was especially when I could see torch light through 97% of the holes, last thing I got the garage to do was bung one water pipe up and pressure test it with an airline to make sure it wasn't leaking air from the water jacket, all good, as for the contaminated flywheel thats easy, saturate it in brake cleaner then hit it with a steam cleaner. Steve.
  9. Hi Kev try gabbing OBD Eleven it pretty good even at entry level and is definitely VAG specific and has a fearsome amount of options regarding re adaption/ coding and has invasive interrogation on the pro version, have a read up on the internet before choosing which version there are guys on here using it with good reviews. Last but not least when changing the battery have another spare battery connected to the jump points under the bonnet as this will provide power continuity when you disconnect the old unit and stop things like the window operation and central locking losing their adaptations, just remember to be very careful with the red lead on the battery as it will still be hot from the donor battery voltage, I found wrapping a marigold glove round it when disconnected normally stops it touching things it shouldn't. Steve.
