  1. You may remember I sold my Audi E Tron GT at the end of August due to insurance cost (£3K) and also the RFT (£450). Incidentally it hasn't sold yet. I thought I would bid you all farewell and thank you for the info, and tips over the years I had Audis. I have just purchased a new Jeacoo J7 SHS Hybrid. It's not bad. Loads of goodies, 56 miles on electric, 700 miles total tank range, albeit I have only done 125 miles so far. It's good value, pretty good finish, but it is definitely not an Audi. Thanks for every thing. Tony
  2. This thread appears to have gone somewhat off topic and ended with a ‘political answer’, and it is anticipated that there will be little extra gathered from protracting discussion. It is therefore going to be locked.

Aircon pressure sensor can cause fan run on. A broken earth wire can also cause it. Just to add to the obvious... 👍

    Thanks for replying 👍🏼
  6. Hi Volkswagens are good I now run a Passat as a cab, still having counselling for the five years that I ran an A6, you would never believe that both cars originate from the same group. Steve.
  7. I know 100miles each way. Decision taken out of my neighbours hands as he's got breakdown cover.
  8. Skye to Inverness is a hell of a long journey. Have you looked for a mobile mechanic who might be able to come to you to do the job? I would not take Audi's word that such people don't exist. After all Audi has a vested interest in the matter.
  9. Good luck for the future Tony. It’s was always a pleasure to hear from you, and thanks for updating us. Please don’t be a stranger just because you have bought the Jaecoo, in fact it would be very interesting to hear of your experiences with it. Take care Tony. Kind regards, Gareth.
  10. Good idea, I'll give it a bash
  11. It's going to be nearly impossible to diagnose without hearing the noise. Is there any chance you can make a good audio recording? Note that most phone recordings sent to the forum have background noise drowning out the noise in question.
  12. Hi this problem is not peculiar to your vehicle or any brand for that matter Vauxhalls are famous for it, the problem lies with the system it runs water from the engine in tandem with oil going to the filter to cool the oil, the gaskets used are some sort of Nitrile based rubber and worse case scenario is water escaping in to the engine oil as if left it will cause premature component failure in the engine and will block any small oil gallery it comes across, its always a horrible job as they put it where you can't get at it easily necessitating removal of the exhaust manifold, good workshop policy is to renew the filter housing as often as not it warps when you take it off. Steve.
  13. Welcome Pip, You will need a new O ring. Alternator out or not ?? On my earlier A3 - no. Regards, Gareth.
  14. Hi , it should come with the large o ring . It’s the smaller one on the side that I purchased separately. I replaced this and it leaked so just use the old one and put some sealer round it ! I did it on a ramp from below . It’s a pig of a job ! Removing the manifold may be easier ! Good luck
  15. No problem Dave, You asked whether the new battery needs coding, and you have been given the answer. Now you seem to want to question that advice and conclude that you ( in caps) have answered your own question, with an answer totally opposite to what you sought an answer to in the first place. Good luck when your alternator attempts to overcharge the new battery, kissing goodbye to any warranty you would have been given. You can then ponder over whether the alternator decides it had enough and gives problems.

Check any connections are unplugged , radiator etc.
  17. It has nothing to with theft prevention, and everything to do with ensuring the battery is charged correctly to avoid damage.

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck
  19. Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones. p.s. Please avoid using non specific locations such as U.K., England etc. etc.
  20. Pleased to report its all back together and the needle is sitting nicely at 90! Thanks for your contributions chaps
  21. Quick update on this . It’s a pig of a job !! Removed alternator and air con pump to gain access . Maybe easier removing inlet manifold and throttle body but will need a new gasket if you go down that route . I’ll update when we have it back together if it cures the problem . As per Gareth’s advice you do indeed require an extra gasket . Thank you Gareth 👍
  22. So, last weekend my brother and I painted his brake calipers and drums on his Suzuki swift. I appreciate that isn't Audi related, however the method is exactly the same if any members would like to do the same to their Audi. Walk through guide: 1. Jack the car up and remove the wheel. We did one brake at a time but ideally using axel stands are recommend. Also I'd recommend wearing gloves as we found the paint a nightmare to get off our hands!! 2. Clean the caliper with the use of a wire brush and brake cleaning spray and wipe off the dirt. And don't forget to mask off areas where you don't want paint reaching. Brake drums are pre-painted so wire brushing is not required. But brake cleaner is a must and again wipe off the dirt. Don't forget to mask off the areas which you don't want painting. 3. Now the fun bit! We used halfords red paint which has to be applied with a paint brush. We felt this would be easier then dismantling the brakes or running the risk of getting spray paint everywhere. We ended up applying 5 coats of paint, leaving 10-15mins between each coat. Depending on your Audi you may need to apply more or less coats but just play it by ear and use your judgement. 4. Leave the paint to touch dry before attempting to put the wheels back on. Let's face it, you don't want to chip the freshly painted calipers/drums or get wet paint on your wheels! 5. Once the paint is touch dry then refit the wheel(s) and let the paint dry for 24 hours. This obviously means you can't drive your car during that time as the brake dust and road dirt will affect the paint finish. 6. After the 24 hour period you can now admire your work! Or if need be apply another coat of paint if need be. If that's the case then repeat stage 2 onwards. Have fun! Cheers Steve
